Let's look at affirmative action. The issue with the UM case is this, that "students are being selected or rejected based primarily on the color of their skin." Does it matter that these people are other than white? Heck yea. I thought we're supposed to live in a world where skin color doesn't matter.

Taken straight from Martin Luther King's famous speech, which many minorities pin their hopes on: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." To me, it looks like they are doing precisely that, being judged by the color of your skin.

Bush is trying to point out the unconstitutionality of such efforts. Before you go on a rant, consider his follow-up statement. "We should not be satisfied with the current numbers of minorities on Americans college campuses. Much progress has been made; much more is needed. University officials have the responsibility and the obligation to make a serious, effective effort to reach out to students from all walks of life, without falling back on unconstitutional quotas. Schools should seek diversity by considering a broad range of factors in admissions, including a student's potential and life experiences."

Well said Rocket. Affirmitive action went from an idea with good intentions to a pure shit policy.

Heh, what exactly have you lost as far as normal everyday life goes ? Have you had to radically change your lifestyle because of this "Homeland Security" ? I doubt it very much. Stop whining about shit that doesnt even affect you.

I'm not American, but I think Bush is doing a good job. He's got balls enough to stand up to pricks like Saddam and North Korea, and not back down when they get all upset about policies and restrictions placed on them because of their own infractions. There's no-one I'd rather have in command of the global police force.

Also, while few have been affected by homeland security it does make a precedent that the government can take your rights away.
How long before people who criticize the government can be arrested as "terrorists" and held without trial?
It's not that I don't trust government...but I don't, there have been to many potentially good governments corrupted in history for anyone to trust them.
Just like gun-control, they start with one type of weapon and pretty soon BB guns are illegal.

I gotta agree. "Homeland security" takes away personal freedoms. While it hasnt accected me personally (yet), I dont like the precident. A government should fear its people, not the other way around. The rest of the world might not think the same way as the US when it comes to gun-control, search and seizure and other personal freedoms, but we are a unique group and value or way of life.
