this act does nothing to save bad schools, if anything it takes funding AWAY from schools that "fail" for a few years in a row. This means that schools that were already fucked up will only get worse, not better.[/quote:8f505] the other thing it does is force schools to always raise standards for students on tests. this is fine in texas where nothing is expected of students but here in new york the standards are already too high and this resulted in the infamous math A Final that more than half of the state failed. That test fortunately was removed from the books, but it raises standards without giving more funding. the other provision in the act was that schools must give a list of students with their info like address and phone no. to the local army recruiter or the school gets no funding. looks like bush may have been trying to keep recruit numbers up for his planned wars. |

Almost as bad as that "Real patriots just aim for the towel" poster thing that's been floating around the net. hake: Not everyone from that region is a terrorist!!! |
What I don't understand is why the guy OVER-funds the military, and dramatically UNDER-funds the public school system.
Doesn't he have ANY vision for the future? The U.S would be so much 'greater,' with an efficient education system, and a smaller government. The only good thing that has ever been accomplished under a big government was Roosevelt's 'New Deal.' I just don't understand. hake: |

of course if the GOP gave that as their official excuse they would get voted out in a heartbeat, they have to make some BS up about vouchers and the evils of the public school system. unfortunately quite a few religious folks buy in hook line and sinker into the "evil" public schools and their communist teachers teaching evil heretical evolution oOo: |

Does he even have the smallest idea what the beef ban and softwood lumber tarif is doing to our economy? Farmers are lossing millions of dollars each day, and entire logging towns have turned into barren goast towns, leaving thousands of former loggers unemployed, unable to find work, and struggling just to feed their families. Very neighborly of you Bush. hake:[/quote:db803] Ummm....... those tariffs were only in response to canada not playing fair to begin with. Canada's government subsidies of the lumber industry in particular, were putting many american timber companies and employees out of business. Canada was selling timber at prices below cost and the government made up the difference. Not exactly fair trade or very neighborly of you canada. hake: Anyway, I dont hate bush, but I dont trust him either. I certainly dont like the way he tries to bully anyone that has a different opinion, I dont think he has a single bit of diplomacy and future leaders will struggle for years to undo the damage he has done and I most especially dont like how he has taken something as tragic as 9/11 and used it almost solely to push forward his personal agenda. It also scares me with how enthusiastic he is about taking away personal rights and freedoms. |
Well you know, Bush is a puppet for Haliburton, and he lied about the weapons of mass destruction, and how the entire media/government, that includes Bush, try to connect the Taliban and the Al Queda with Hussein. That just makes me angry. Another thing that annoys me about Bush or the government is that he sent an army composed of mostly lower class citizens, or immigrants(Latinos trying to get citizenship through being in the military) to fight the war in Iraq. The WASP childern are safe in their homes.
