If it does go gold im wondering who has the say over the release date. Since the final files have been laoded through steam then by all rights activation and getting into the game should be instant. But most likely we're gonna have to wait till the game hits store shelves. oOo:

I think with steam this will be the first time a game has had a simaltanious worldwide release date (to an extent). Just be nice if we didn't have to wait till it hit store shelves, just seems somewhat redundant to me.

The only difference so far seems to be DoD:Source which you can only get through the steam packages. No word on whether or not it will be a free download or not. Oh do you get a box or instructions with the Steam packages? I don't think so, so there are differences. I think that is why the packages are a little bit cheaper. The collector's edition at EB comes with Hl2, Hl1 and CS along with the strategy guide and tshirt for 79.99.

The silver package on Steam comes with DoD:Source as well and is only 59.99, but you don't get a box or instructions or the strategy guide. So I guess if you don't care about those extras then Steam would be the way to go, but I like the fact that I get the cd's and box and instructions and whatnot.

I posted this story yesterday freak:

I can't fucking wait for Team Fortress(2) Source, I used to play that game to death every single night, oh I remember my name: 'God-Save-The-Team'

(I even have the hope that TFC:S will be just as popular as CS)

Fond memories beer:

Owned.

I got it at futureshop for 49.

Its such a good game though. I would have paid 70 for it.

[quote:4a499]RUMOR #1: Half-Life 2 is gold. Really. No foolin'. Honest.

Source: If we told you, we'd have to kill you.

The official story: Both VU Games and Valve declined comment.

What we heard: Ever since the release candidate for Half-Life 2 was submitted to VU Games in mid-September, a piñata has hung in the lobby of Valve's headquarters. The plan: to bust the sucker open when the game achieved gold status. Earlier today, GameSpot learned from an informed sourced that "the piñata has been broken" and the game has gone gold. Further evidence of the game's completion was a press release issued this afternoon touting the first review of "the entire game." Though nothing official has been announced yet, it appears the fat lady is at last clearing her throat.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus.[/quote:4a499]

Akuma 10-17-2004 10:50 AM

Does anyone know if Valve will unlock the Steam copies right after it goes gold or do we have to wait until the retail copies are shipped?
