I used to do DSL/Cable tech support for SouthWestern Bell and Road Runner. IDSL is long reach DSL, the reason it costs so much is that you are on the fringe of not being within range and have to have a booster put in. ADSL is just regular DSL depending on the company will determine speeds.

I'm only familiar with the services most folks talk about and are economically feasible in my eye. 100 bucks a month isnt bad - BUT - I wouldn't get much use out of it. Games, yea thats great, but 100 dollars worth. I dunno. All I play now is MOH, and RTCW, and maybe HALF LIFE (cant really get into this game - graphics are a BIG turn off to me).
And I've heard those things about EARTHLINK as well - but its gotta be better than AOL. What about DirectTV? |

The only reason I've even stuck with AOL is they have these wonderful PRIVATE ROOMS that beat mIRC as far as content is concerned. That and I've managed to get free AOL for the past 4 months (complaining about horrendous ping, and all that - since I've only just got into the gaming side in the past month it hasn't really been a problem for me).
That is really the ONLY reason I have to stay on AOL, and bear 150-300 pings (rarely get that on ME though). But seriously - there HAS to be some reason I CANT even get connected on XP, but I'm at least able to get a functional ping on ME. Ideas. Anyone. Bueler. shiv in the side: gift that keeps on giving |
well if anyone would like to help in my search for high speed internet my zip is 33029 and my city is miramar. Can also try pembroke pines. this is all in Florida. And thanks to all for all the valuable information.

Satellite is awfull for gaming. -STONER http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...2/fdf3831c.jpg [This message has been edited by Maj.Stoner (edited February 06, 2002).] |
Try www.dslreports.com
Great site. I use ADSL and it ROCKS! 1.5 down and 250 up. ------------------ http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/at...fn/quiksig.jpg |
It all depends on what you need the speed for. Satellite is great if all you do is download porn and mp3s. Mostly because its incoming (download) traffic rate is insanely high.
However, it sucks for online gaming, because its outgoing (upload) rate bites the big one. Also - might wanna check into ISDN. In your situation, it might be better than getting DSL. I am BARELY covered by my phone company's CO. Which means I can just barely get DSL. Its great when it works, but it has a tendency to NOT work. Good thing I'm moving out soon. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif |
Im not going to bother responding to SHELL missteps in figuring out the simplicity on why his requests for a "SNIPER MOD" be moved to the MOD section if we were following his rules - because I'm sure he knows he's wrong, as always - so it's all good.
As far as you are concerned FALCON - now I dont live in FLORIDA - but I dont think it's such a rural area, where broadband wouldn't be available at a reasonable price to you. That seems a little crazy to me. I would check AGAIN with the phone company, the cable company, AOL, EARTHLINK, DIRECT TV, and AT & T. One of those individuals HAS to provide you with some sort of reliable broadband service. Post your city and zip so maybe some folks who are more familiar with this service, can help you. mazel my tov like the biyotch youse izz |
