Too simplistic and poorly thought a rationalization. It falls apart when scrutinized...

Bring back God into the lives of people like in the 16thC and you will have puritans burning witches, religious wars & persecution of Catholics/Protestants etc. Where did God ever get us then?

Great read. I remember when she first said this. It is one of the best "speeches" I have ever read.

Speaking of God, I've got a joke:

So this 70-year-old man had just completed his monthy physical, and right before he left, the doctor asked him,
"Douglas, what keeps you so healthy at such an age?"
"Oh, I have a strong connection with God."
"Do you?"
"Yes, I do, doctor."
"Would you care to explain?"
"Wow! Gods been really helpful to me for all this time! He's so helpful- when I gotta go to the bathroom, he turns on the light when I enter, and turns it off when I leave"
The doctor amazed with this, decided to ask the 70-year-old mans wife.
"So, I was talking to your husband yesterday, and he sad he had a strong connection with God. He told me that when he enters the bathroom, the light turns on, and when he leaves, the light turns on. What about this?"
The wife responded, "That old bastard..he's pissing in the 'fridge again!"
