i dunno about albums but 80s music had the greatest impact on me since it was the first i was really exposed to. 80s metal probably shaped my future interests ...
being from a somewhat small town selection was always limited, so, if you did find something new (i can recall getting ahold of reagan youth/sex pistos great rocknroll swindle/flogging a dead horse this way), it was usually handed down from someone who got it from someone they new in a nearby city (atlanta usually). as far as owning "tapes" i can remember having these when i first could afford to buy music, so they mustve had something to do with shaping my likes and dislikes: Red Hot Chili Peppers - uplift mofo party plan http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=q5lduT ... wDAhdphyiH The Cure - Staring at the Sea: The Singles (quite a few other cure as well but this was the first) http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=E9k7q_ ... PNuPbWyR4K The Misfits - The Misfits (i cant even begin to tell you how many times i listened to this one) http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=sdYdMG ... JJZ_Rby9vN The Cramps - Bad Music for Bad People http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=Oxpguh ... FoRn9plTDI The Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=hCpa4f ... t9ktNTce4J Agnostic Front - Victim in Pain http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=K4nmmZ ... AOq8uKXTLE Siouxsie and the Banshees - Peepshow http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=ZX5jRp ... xXOLEqPa4D Minor Threat - Minor Threat http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=oZd6ji ... XW3hPepgXL Dead Kennedys - Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=4ziKyk ... CD-RdLSUCG The Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard in My Backyard (still a great, i can listen to it over and over) http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=JVyWfX ... HBg9_7xGCB Megadeth - Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=apEtqw ... 7AJpbV-pIJ Metallica - ...And Justice for All http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=btmR2c ... eD68guLM0C Willie Dee - Controversy (i so wish i could find this album) http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=M4eXQb ... 28M91IxruJ N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=klF2q_ ... MqbwwOE3pv Eazy-E - Eazy-Duz-It http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=eg-AlF ... vkCiHbfpMD the list could go on and on, but these are the first that come to mind. |

Pink Floyd - Animals
This album introduced me to a whole new style of rock music.. Progressive rock. I know i used to rag on it, but i thought of progressive rock as bands like Dream Theater... I never realised some of the most complex, adventerous, subtle, and amazing music ever written came out of the progressive rock genre in the 70's.. and continues to today. It has changed my entire view on music, and from it i have gotten into alot of jazz and jazz-related music.. Honestly, music is the most important thing in my life. Some albums i can't live without: Genesis - Foxtrot Genesis - Nursery Cryme Genesis - Selling England By The Pound Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway Yes- Close To The Edge Frank Zappa - We're Only in it for the money, Hot Rats, Grand Wazoo, Absolutely Free, One Size Fits All Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds Of Fire, Inner Mounting Flame John Coltrane - A Love Supreme Return To Forever - Romantic Warrior Pharoah Sanders - Karma John Zorn - Naked City Dredg - El Cielo Radiohead - Ok Computer, Kid A Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Yanqui U.X.O. and the list goes on... |
