What I'm saying is AL is so close to being in the EST, but we're not. The time that the sun sets here is practically the same as what it does in NY, FL, etc... Since we're still in CST the sun sets unusually soon, whereas if the time was in fact switched to EST it would set @ about 6:00, which is a more normal time for the sun to go down on standard time.
It'd be like living on the time zone line, standing on the EST side and saying, "it's 6:00 and it's dark," then go back over the line to CST and say, "It's 5:00 and it's dark."
There are actually a few cities in AL that have switched to EST, even though the actual time zone line never breaches the AL/GA state line.
