Then please explain what affirmative action is all about, Chango.[/quote:94e5e]

Oh, it's you.

Affirmative Action was started during the civil rights movement to prevent anyone from being discriminated against or denied benefits based on race, color or origin from any activity or program or job that recieves government funding. This was expanded to include women and religion. And it was left up to the activities or programs or jobs to decide how to accomplish this.

That is what affirmative action is about, while the idea of reparations is to have the government make up for it's support of slavery and the treatment of former slaves after the civil war (eg. jim crow laws, false promise of land, etc...)

I guess you could argue that both are because of the post-civil war treatment of former slaves, but thats about all of the connection that you could get.

What's your explanation of affirmative action and how it relates to reparations? And please don't just say "it's these lazy scumbag "colors" whining about how they can't get a job" like i'm sure you're tempted to do.

Ok, though it is interesting that you said "some black girl" rather than "a black girl my friend knows."

And if you think about it, someone personally knowing the person that was hired/accepted because of affirmative action is much rarer than someone assuming they weren't accepted because of it. Or maybe i'm annoyed with the people that assumed that I got accepted to UM because I was black rather than my high gpa or my high sat score

And why does everyone always bring up reparations at these topics? That has nothing to do with this at all.

yeah, i should have made that more clear in my initial post... and i know it is rare, but i'm just saying that whenever someone gets accepted due to affirmative action, someone else gets rejected because of it. and i agree, it has very little to do with reperations.

UMMM HELLO........this is what happens even without affirmative action. someone gets accepted and another guy loses out...this is just what happens! You're just angry because theres a chance you would lose out to a black or hispanic and not another white man, is this the truth? people dont seem to understand this rolleyes:

[quote="Unknown_Sniper":c79ac]Strongly against. And this is coming from someone who goes to a school with 4 black kids in it and maybe like 5 hispanics. everyone else is white. The school I want to go to up near canada isnt that racially mixed but I dont care. I stull believe AA is reverse racism. it should go away.[/quote:c79ac]

oh, and if you are against it, what is your plan for a different type of hiring process that doesn't discriminate?

i'm not angry, for one. and when someone gets accepted BECAUSE of affirmative action, someone gets rejected who would have been accepted if aa was not in affect... someone more qualified. and don't act like you know me... most of my friends are either indian or black, and i got accepted early decision with no problem and wasn't even worried about it.... the problem is one someone borderline gets rejected because a less qualified person who happens to be a minority gets accepted instead.

he didn't say his friend couldn't go there, he said the friend didn't get a scholarship... there is a difference.... but i give you the valedictorian should have been able to get some sort of scholarship... unless it was out of state or something.
