The thing I hate about movies based on books is that so many things are changed. I really feel the movie should be an exact representation of the book. Its not the movie makers decision on how the movie should turn out, but the guy who originally wrote the thing. I know everything can't stay the same, so I guess i'll have to go into this one with an open mind and seperate the movie from everything else.

Well yes, but they went for a more "historical fiction" type of movie instead of a supernatural one with the gods and stuff. All three main characters in the film (hector, paris, achilles) reject the gods.

Virgils Aeneid was written some several centuries after the Illiad, and must be taken with a grain a salt, as much of the poem is Augustan Propaganda meant to justify the growing imperial activities of Rome at that time, focusign less on the traditional epic folklore... also the Aeneid takes place primarily after the war, and lends little insight into the actual fighting...

Then there was the scene where the trojans mount a surprise attack at the greeks and they all decide, in the middle of the HUGE battle, to crowd around "achilles" and hector and watch them fight. Then when hector kills "arhilles", the almost 80,000 guys decide that was enough fighting for the day and they walk back to the city and the greeks back to their ships...

Didn't the Greek archers have the High ground? ( a ridge before the beach?)
...
That's just mythology stuff. I thaught it fit the plot perfectly.

I'm planning to see it this weekend...hope I'm not dissappointed...most of the reviews I heard of it were from girls at my school. oOo:

now that I think about it you are correct, the archers did have the high ground, but of what they showed of them, the archers werent very concentrated, and the advancing trojans were less that probly 50 feet from the ridge. So if they could have taken that ridge, the greeks would have been screwed. The hard part is that the movie didnt show the number of archers the greeks had.
Best line from the movie : "She's gone, she left with the trojans!"

imported_Fluffy_Bunny 05-18-2004 09:48 PM

I know you get to see Brads butt, but more importantly, do we get to see Helen's butt?

I mean, the butt that launched a thousand ships & sparked a major battle/war ought to be something to see... cool:

SoLiDUS 05-19-2004 04:12 AM

Hell NO! The funniest moment of the movie was...

"Don't look at me like that! I didn't touch the girl."
"Where is she ?"
"I gave her to the men!"

ROFL!

snipes 05-19-2004 06:53 PM

Airborne Butters 05-25-2004 09:58 AM

that fucker with the huge hammer was awesome! Anyways, they had a few actors in there where you went 'Hey he was in....' on notable person was the old general type guy who at the end was holding down the door with his men saying they were the best. That was the principal from Back to the Future. I also noted, but not sure, was the guy who played Achille's cousin he looked like one of the twins from Matrix... better double check on dat.

SPOILER!!!I watched it finally. And I loved it! I don't think Prince Paris (Orlando Bloom) had the right to kill Achilles though.

NO SPOILERIt had good fight scenes, some humor, a good story (definetly), and good actors also. I loved it so I'll probably be buying it when it comes out.
