Meh, the whole 5XX range pretty much blew anyways. Wasn't the 5700 the one where you could actually burn out the chip by leaving on a 3d accelerated screensaver? Something about the fan turning off on the card which fried the chip.

Akuma 07-13-2005 06:54 PM

Never heard of that. FX5700 was released to compete with the R9600XT. But ya, the whole FX series sucked ass.

My friend has the unfortunate problem of owning an FX5700U but it hasn't burned out or anything.

5700 = pulled before it could even hit the market, the 5800 = its revised improved brother still a pos though.

Not quite. 5800 was the dust buster pos that was supposed to answer the 9700/9800. Production was stopped a few weeks later and there was nothing for a while. Then they released the 5900 which was a step in the right direction but still a POS. The 5700 came out later in game when the 9600XTs came out.

Gotta love the 5800s. They are a collectors item now.

Have you seen the video that nvidia made making fun of their own card? They attached the 5800 to like leaf blowers and hair driers and stuff.
