wow some people are really stupid in here, i don't think i ever read anything about anyone wishing for war. and also im not obsessed with omaha beach or normandy i just thought it would be a cool place to visit, i like learning about the 101st in holland more than anything else in ww2. and you cant call me a sick person for buy moh just to find out what war is like... i wach the history channel i see what it does to people i have seen real pictures of mutalted bodies, and in 2 yrs when i turn 18 im shipin my self off to army ranger school. and its not just ww2, i like learing about any war, its just a facination with me. and yes mohaa is just a game... a really cool game.

also about dropping the atomic bomb on japan... how else were we to end the war? an invasion of mainland japan would have caused millions of deaths on both sides, and this is a very little known fact but, the japanise were the first people to discover the jet stream, using this to their advantage they made balloon bombs, bombs that would travel east over the pacific ocean untill they reached mainland USA... now there are only 4 known casualties from these ballon bombs, a family picnicing in northern oregon. well i live on the outskirts of seattle(in the direct line of fire of balloon path of destruction!!!) and i know that if a balloon bomb landed on my house i would nuke them dirty japanise in a heartbeat. it think the bomb was the best way to end it. if hitler or japan wouldave created one first, you know they wouldave done the same to us!

Normandy isnt the only place to see bunkers...
Jutland also have bunkers on their beachses and i havent seen many of them, because the sea is eating them.. The waves is destroying the sand and the bunkers gets dragged into the water. But that wasnt big bukers.. Just plain one room with a murderhole. The only big one we (danes) have are the Hanstholm bunker.. Lying at the north of Jutland it could, together with Norway, protect the Eastersea from invasion... |

I visited last summer, it's a very moving place and the beaches are full of huge holes where artillery shells landed almost everywhere. Great museums also.

Wrong.
The Japanese civilians were told they'd be crucial in defending their homeland. The Japanese government basically brainwashed them, telling them to fight the Allied soldiers with whatever they had. Japanese people during that period were the opposite of European people. European citizens didn't want to be involved when the war came to them. The Japanese citizens almost wanted the Americans to land on the soil of Japan, just so they could have a chance to kill one themselves. The U.S. would've had to kill hundreds of thousands of civilians, most likely millions, to 'conquer' Honshu, the main island of Japan. This is a rather well documented fact. If you don't know anything about World War II, don't try to argue with someone who does. |
I know this may sound callous, but sometimes it is difficult to distinguish between "civvies" and the military in a war..
After all, if an American soldier came to me during wartime and asked if they could use my home as a base of operations, I would say "Hell yes!". I'm sure the same goes for Japanese civvies during WW2... |
I must say i have read every one of the replies in this topic and it has really made me think more about it like omaha,china,it just made me think most about omaha and the people that died there and i wish we just bombed the bunkers from the skies why dident we do that so insted we thew a shit tone of are men to die like that it is sad thow i think i will never look at mohaa the same again but i must say all the men that landed on omaha were probly some of the bravest men that ever lived.

Another thing all the stupied kids that r talking like the war was fun and you couldent die well my dad was in veinam and he has told me some stories that have made chills go down my spine......well here how would you think if you were crouched down being shot at with a 50 cal next to you with one of your best friends wit hit then you look over and see him get hes head blown off ya now how do you think just think about seeing some thing like that makes you look at every thing in a hole new perspective doesent it...........well i know it did change my point of veiw.

the huge navel fleets fired shells but had little effect cuz the bunkers were 3 meters thick in some spots. my friends dad was a navy seal in veitnam and he can not even wach a movie with guns in it anymore with out crying, i wish he would talk cuz i would like to hear storys but im afriad he will take them the grave...i guess some things are better left unsaid. and yeah i do want to be in a war dispite all the horible things that come out of it i want to serve my country and i want to kill somone who oposses our country and our allies, i will be an army ranger or i will die trying.

Actually, they did try to bomb the beaches. Problem was, bombers in those days weren't as precise as bombers now. Plus, the weather was really bad for doing a bombing run that day and the bombs ended up missing the beach (and the bunkers) by a couple miles.
The navy had more luck in hitting the beach. But, as Rickets said, they didn't do much good because the bunkers were too thick. |

I once remember that my grandfather witnessed the downing of a B-17 bomber about 30 miles south of Bucharest, and he actually met the three airmen that survived jumping with the parachutes.
My grandfather said he was very impressed about them, and he tried to give them some money to help them , and they gave him a nice navigator wrist watch, with cronometer and several other functions that i forgot about..... even if the watch does not work anymore, i still lke to hold it sometimes and imagine what was it really like in a war... man, that is giving me the shivers... When you are young and playing wargames it's easy to think you can pull the trigger on a man.....and the veteran's hsopitals are full of guys haunted by doing exacly that. You know, there are ways to do something for your country that won't get you killed. Donate money to the september 11th fund! If you were older, I'd suggest donating blood. There are people in your state that could use support, I 'm sure. America is the land of the free, home of the brave. Not swamp of the suicidal, grave of the dead.
Also, I'm only 13 years old, and I'm embarrased to see all of these run on sentences from high schoolers. Seeing you 14 year olds writing like that just makes me sick. Is this what they teach freshman? |
