Is being called "Black" offensive? If so, why? Is it because of the association of negative, evil things with the color black?

Either way I used it to distinguish african americans in particular out of many dark-skinned ethnicities that could have been mistaken for, had I simply used the word black. Because we do have alot of black people in our country too... beer:
