ISSUE: EVERY DVD I play on my internal DVD player on my desktop either skips or is played in like a slow motion state... I recently bought a new DVD player thinking it was my old one that was giving me problems... I checked the drivers, jumpers, cable, etc... all is fine. So both DVD players are giving me this problem.. and all those DVDs play fine on my internal DVD player on my laptop. So I've come to the conclusion that there has to be a problem with my desktop.. motherboard? who the fucks knows it's driving me insane.
Has anyone come across this problem before??? |
could be the amount of ram you have installed.
|
what media player are u playing them in?
|
well... I've tried two different versions of PowerDVD... what other media players could I use?? other then windows media player.. what do you guys recommend?
RAM: When my desktop first had only 1 gigs of RAM it did the same thing and recently I installed another gig of RAM and it's still doing it. |
Could be a faulty ide cable, saying that though it also sounds like a wonky laser, my uncle had the exact same problems on his pc with a dvd drive movies pausing stuttering etc and turned out to be abad laser. Try a different ide cable on the drive.
Also make sure dma mode is enabled for the drive by following this: http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm |

Ok here is the list I get.. I picked the first on the list and restarted and I still get the same shit... To be specific the DVD just plays slow... like sort of like in slow motion, a bit chopppy.. it's weird... lol I'll have to try and get a new IDE cable and see if thats it. |
Struck it lucky yesterday, pc store i go to in my town had a big closing down clearence sale, one of the things left was a pc they used to demo games etc and the parts were being sold of as "sold as is". Took a look inside it and see a crosfire edition x1900xt, was told it wasn;t for sale as it was faulty. Told the guy i'll take it anyway to see if i can get it working and offered him £70 for it, he took it. rock:
Something to be said for having the ability to apply 14x fsaa to games, also brought my old hydrocool out of retirement and its now cooling my 2800mhz dual core opteron. happy: card runs fine as well, can only asume their psu wasn't upto the task of runnig it and all the other components. |
the hell.. cry:

Give me that computer for $250, gerv. biggrin:

Think i'll pass. ed:

Guys i need to build my gf a new computer. The one she has now is a Celeron processor with 512 RAM that is unbelievably slow as fuck (its a Compaq)
I need some suggestions on parts. She is definatly not looking to break the bank here. Just something a lot faster than the 3 year old POS computer she has now. I need motherboard options, processor options and soundcard options. Basically she uses the PC to talk on AIM, get online, do homework, download music and watch videos (yes she cant even watch streaming videos) |

p 4 1.8 ghz, 256 to 512 mb sdram, 20 to 40 gb hd. Keep the same monitor of course and i think your good to go. You get all that mentioned above off ebay for like 200 bucks or so
|
Yeah i was thinking along the same lines as far as the upgrades. Either AMD or Intel., definatly 512, probably DDR.

I have a little problem with my wireless card. As of late, I haven't been getting a very good signal. In fact I have never really gotten a good signal for the entire time I have had the card. So I bought a brand new D-link card with a massive antenna. Neweggs site said that it was a PCI card. It was in fact a PCI 2.2 card. Can someone link me a good PCI Wireless adapter please? Or an antenna for my current p.o.s. wireless card? Thanks.
