Pretty much any core 2 review shows results vs pentium 4's, usually the dual core variety since obviously the core 2 is dual core as well. |
Ok, this is making ZERO sense to me.
I bought a Logitech USB 250 headset today and it seemed to be working fine. Teamspeak was clear and the mic was working just great. I boot up BF2 and join a server. I got nothing but connection problems. I couldn't walk 2 steps without seeing "There was a problem with your connection". So, for troubleshooting's sake, I disconnected and quit BF2, unplugged my headset, and booted BF2 again. I joined a server and magically my connection problems disappeared. Now, how in God's creation can a HEADSET cause lag in BF2?? Can someone please help me out. I just slapped another 1GB of RAM into the machine too and BF2 seems to like that a lot. This sucks beyond belief. mad: |
Could be something to do with your upstream suppose, maybe the audio quality is whoring up all the bandwidth making bf2 lag? Ive not used teamspeak in ages but i think theres options to lower your audio quality. Might also want to try changing the audio settings for the game in bf2 itself.

Here is a question for ya. I have a Pentium D 805 dual core but get the feeling its not running as a dual core. The reason for this is if I run CPU-Z
It only shows as one core. Everything I have seen on this link shows it as being selectable between both cores. http://www.digital-daily.com/cpu/pentiu ... ndex02.htm How can I check if i am running using both cores properly?? |
im not exactly sure, but sometimes the mobo will come with software that will allow you to get a better idea of whats going on. ie AOpen supply such software
|
Might be an older motherboard bios revision making only 1 core show up, did you install the dual core patch? Available here
http://static.hardwareluxx.de:443/hardw ... 86-ENU.exe After you install the patch bring up task manager and check the performance tab, dual core should show like this: You then have the option of having processes run on one core or both by selecting the affinity: |
I'm looking to buy a 300gig external hard drive. Should I buy the drive and then buy the enclosure? Is that cheaper? Or should I just buy a complete set?
I was looking at 300gig Maxtor drives. Any suggestions? |
Most externals come in a plastic enclosure anyway, does it have to be external? Never used one but id say the transfer speeds from pc to drive wouldn't be that great.

Might want to find one like this:

Recently my comp got fried. Most of the stuff inside seems to still work because i can hear all the bells and whistle. However, the video card is completely shot due to the giant black spot created by a shorting i imagine. I pick up another video card because it seemed like only thing wrong. Now i still can't boot up and see the monitor. Could my PCI-E slot be jacked? How am i supposed to install drivers for this card if i can't even see my monitor?
|
possibly your psu.
|
The only problem is i know the rhythm of my PC. When it starts up i know all the sounds from boot up to when it arrives to my welcome screen and all seems well. Of course i can't see shit.

Also the golden fan in the center isn't running, i don't have my manual on me so im not exactly sure what it is cooling. |
That gold fan is your chipset fan. Not a good idea to try run w/ out that working properly. You could fry your mobo.

Any of you guys have IBM Thinkpad T60s?
I've randomly been getting the blue screen of death telling me about a hardware malfunction. Any suggestions? If I bring it to the computer help desk, I won't be getting it back for a long time.... |
The previos Gerv response got me wondering if I was running off only single core. How do I know for sure. I have a intel core2 duo with an Asus P5W DH Deluxe mobo.
IN my hardware device manager it shows core 2 2.4 twice but my task manager doesn't show cpu0 nd cpu1 like Gerv's. I got paranoid and the asus website said that a few of these mobo's shipped were out without bios updated for core2 processors. How can I determine for sure if am I using both cores? Mine was just purchased 1 month ago and the asus website said that the most recent should be ok. Problem #2 When I first built this machine, it booted really fast. Now it takes roughly 3-4 minutes before it begins starting up windows. I thought it was McAffe. I unistalled it to no avail. my startup menu seems not too cluttered. The only heavy hitter on startup is steam. Could it be bios or windows? I have all the latest drivers and utilities. As said earlier, it's only a month old. |
Have a feeling my video card is about to take a shit. Have the GeForce 6600GT and when i turned on my computer, i got a messed up looking screen that went black. Wasn't able to reboot the normal way (had to unplug the comp) and it booted fine. Then, put comp on "Standby" as i went to the store to pick something up. Upon my return as i went to "wake" the comp, the screen remained black and i got the "No signal" message on the monitor. Had to reboot using the unplugging method and have a normal screen now.
Whats the dealio? |
Card could be on its way out or it was just a glitch that happened.

Nice rock: |
i['ve got a question. i'm bringing back some of my overclocking but i'm kinda stuck between two options. right now i can run my cpu at 233mhz for 3.5 but the ram can only function at a 5:4 ratio so it's at 184 with 2-2-2-6 timings. the other option is just run a 1:1 ratio at 200mhz overall with the same ram timings. what is more beneficial?
|
go with the 200, dont sacrifice speed for RAM
|
found a sweet spot, 224 for 3.38 with 1:1 at 3-3-3-6

You suck. wallbash: |
is that a jealous you suck or a straight you suck? i know it's not that great but its stable and a little gain in speed.

i don't have the kinda money to throw around such as ytourself, i have to deal with poopoo specs and no watercooling you vagina.

ban: happy: Not missing much with watercooling, marginally quieter than air cooling but a lot more expensive. I wouldn't even say the performance it offers is that much better than good aircooling either. If pci express wasn't a necessity for newer graphics cards id still be happy with my p4 setup, don't really notice alot of gaming difference with this dual core setup. loney: |
finallly installed my artic cooling silencer.
now ive never really been very aware of this but what am i look for temperature wise? i mean what should the average idle temperature be, and what should it be whilst say playing a game? in degrees celsius please. just i am overlocking the card and i want to know how far i can risk on how high it heats up. |
x800's ran pretty hot with the stock cooler upto almost 90c. Artic cooler should bring that down to 60 odds at load id say.
