A stock 9800se is just bearly faster than a 9600 Pro. BUT, since it has the 256bit memory interface there is a fairly good chance that it can be softmodded into a 9800 Pro.
Edit: I think the newest Omega drivers actually enable the four extra pipes. So you probaly won't even have to flash BIOS or anything. I say go for it. |
Well eames you dont have to put new fans on a vid card to oc etc. just download powerstrip and its as easy as pushing up a little button.''
+ Conscript they are both important but when you looking at rams speeds most low end cards in this category have the same speeded ram, so a faster core is usually more of the buying point on these cards. eames just go with the 9800Se if your willing to pay and the 4200 if you wanna save both are great buyz. Dont worry bout the fan dieing that only happned to what ? 4 out of 6000 customers ? |

this is what i setteled on, i looked into it it actually has a faster core speed then alot of 9800 pro's in the 200 dollar price range and its memory is only being beat out by like 75-85 hz plus ive been wanting to get condition zero, how do u think this card will fare in doom 3, hl2, and mohpa? |

Core speed is only a part of the total performance. Most important is pipelines. The 9800 Pro has 8 while the 9600 Pro only has 4. Next is memory interface. 9800 Pro has 256bit while 9600 Pro only has 128bit. So the 9600 must have a core and memory speed twice that of the 9800 pro to have equal performance.
Also the 256MB 9600 Pro is a POS. While it has more memory than it's 128MB counterpart, it performs worse because they put really shitty memory in there. |

Condition Zero's single player is lame, You have to solve all these little puzles with boxes and bs while killing a bazillion terrorists.
