no, i know... i'm saying that Iggy and others were on the scene making music and such, but "punk" as a style/genre wasn't really realized until bands like the Sex Pistols (who exisited prior to 76 but only got major recognition for NMtBHtSP) brought it out of underground scenes... esssentialy punk existed, it just hadn't been officially "named" or whatever, but i would agree with you in your assertion that Iggy is likely the grand-daddy of punk...

As much as i love the ramones, they didnt start punk. They just played it. IN fact they came into the scene quite a while after "Punk" started. Id probably say Iggy pop and the Stooges started punk.
