one thing you cant argue, after the bombs were dropped no one messed with the US............................................... until 9/11

Trunks 05-31-2005 04:15 PM

true slackem but is that a good thing or a bad thing? The US can be looked at as the class bully. The bully beats up some kids, and establishes himself as the class bully. People tolerate him for a while, but then one kid has enough and stands up to him. He gets beat up. Then more and more peopel stand up to him, and soon teh bully is the one getting beat up. Nobody likes a bully, and unfortunately, in some cases, that seems like what the US is becoming. A bully, with nukes.

Alot of other countries have nukes as well. It's not like the U.S is the only one. I don't consider the U.S a bully....More of a policeman with good intentions that's made a mistake or too along the way...

as far as the placement of the bombs, its not like today where we can pin point the strike area. We used the latest technolgy availble at that time

Madmartagen 06-01-2005 09:47 PM

Japanese had it coming, thats my personal opinion, but i know that wasnt the reason why we dropped the bombs. there is no way to bluff a enemy totally commited to war into surrendering. the only way to wake these fuckers up and let them know the war was over was to drop some heavy firepower onto them. its sad that it took that kind of devastation to end the war, but the US, Britain, Commonwealth, USSR and China didnt go into the 20th century looking to fight this war. victory was ours because of that we decide how the war will end. this was a total war, and the only acceptable way for us to end it was to have the unconditional surrender of the Japanese Empire. there was no way to get that w/o getting nasty.

i agree, pearl harbor was a legitimate military target.

how can say there was no way to avoid a war with the US, the US wasnt interested in going to war with japan or germany, it wasnt until pearl harbor that the US really got invovled in the war . they deserved what they got , if you look at the major ground battles in the pacific, the US command knew the japs wouldnt just give up , so they had no other option but to drop the bombs.

in japans point of view, war with america was unavoidable. in order for them to continue their conquest of east asia, they needed to trade with the US. america had already let japan know that if it continued its push into asian countries, we would stop trading with them. japan was not about to stop its conquest, and so they had come to the conclusion that they would have to fight the US sooner or later. so, as trunks put it, they attacked first and had the element of surprise.

do you think that attack played any part in the US dropping atomic bobms on them ? i think it had a little bit of effect

Madmartagen 06-02-2005 09:26 PM

im sure there was revenge in the minds of the sailors, marines and pilots, but the whole tactical and strategic purpose for using the bomb was to end the war.

rdeyes 06-03-2005 03:22 AM

yeah its a shame that it had to end like that , war isnt a friendly game
