Having a cert definatly helps out. I just need a few certs and i can get a gov't job.

No idea man, i know the longest process to get a job with a defence contractor is the damn background check. Some people wait a year to hear back for a gov't job.

Manages and maintains the database? Pretty much just server work. Making sure everything is up to date. A lot more work than you think from what my teacher tells me.

Miller, you should seek out a Microsoft certification instead. Government uses Microsoft Windows Server 2003, if you get a MCSE for that, you are already ahead of most candidates. Most database administrators have Microsoft certifications.

Don't get me wrong, Cisco certifications are great as well, but they are more for Network Administrators.

It is a 6-test certification. I suggest taking a look at which tests you need for which part of the certification (Server 2000, Server 2003, etc.) on http://www.microsoft.com and then taking courses at a local college or something.
