ninty 03-22-2006 09:24 PM

Yeah, i guess it works. there is a console so there must be an in game command for fps...i just don't know it.

anyway, turned up the detail and it looks pretty good.

Story of the screens:

Was going to ride the horse, but for some reason they thought i was stealing it so they started to attack me. i killed them then went to kill the horse which got its head stuck in the roof. after that i decided to kill the guys inside, but two of them are important to the game so they just go unconscious for a few seconds and then wake up like nothing has happened.

You can also pick stuff up kind of like in half life 2. you can move bodies around or liek i did pick up arms of dead people. pretty cool.

NINTY what system do you have.

And yea - JAUFFRE's death would pretty much break the game. . .

ninty 03-22-2006 09:45 PM

AMD Athalon 64 3500+ @ 2.2ghz
2 gigs kingston hyperx
sapphire radeon x800 pro 256mb
Asus A8V mobo
etc.

I think i'm going to keep it at 1280X1024. the sliders are mostly half way and the draw distance is all the way. all the options for off or on are all on and 2X AA. My FPS drops to 15 or so in big battles, but it is manageable. most of the time it's around 30. maybe i'll tweek around a bit more, and i might use the ati tool to overclock my vid card a bit.

one other thing about the radiant ai:

when i started killing guards in one town a civilian picked up one of the dead guards sword and started attacking me along with the other guards. once i hit him with my sword, he ran away. happy:

Fantastic screenshots nintald, i'll give it a go on my ol' radeon 9800 pro but if it just looks a mess i may just splash out on a new video card, dunno what to get tho

Tystnad 03-23-2006 03:42 AM

I so want this game now. Might have to save up some many for an upgrade, though.. Ah well.

SoLiDUS 03-23-2006 05:27 AM

You know what ? I'm kind of ticked off that after taking the BLADE gear in that mountain fortress, I get "arrested" in the Imperial city for theft: how the FUCK do THEY know it's stolen gear ?

On a similar note, how in the hell do you remove the "stolen item" indication on your shit ? I tried getting pardoned in a church (yeah... I know) but that doesn't work. I'm just annoyed at such a stupid bug: otherwise, the game is great.

dr nein 03-23-2006 03:38 PM

How does one drop stuff? I must have missed that small detail of the tutorial.

ninty 03-23-2006 03:47 PM

shift click

dr nein 03-23-2006 03:51 PM

...fuck

I knew it would be something that simple.

Danke.

TGB! 03-23-2006 03:54 PM

If someone knows you stole, they know you stole. Im not familiar with that part yet (been busy pickpocketing everyone in the Imperial City's house keys), but the only times I've been knackered, are when people have seen me break the law.

Whats funny though is when youve broken into someones house, and even after they see you - they dont call the cops (well one guy almost did). One guy snuck up behind ME and then promptly went to sleep.

As for explaining what shit does - yes the game is pretty balls about that.

Inside the Maseleum for instance - dunno what the closed fist with the line icon means when you hoover above one of the stone caskets.

CoMaToSe 03-23-2006 04:55 PM

Sounds good to me. Morrowind's character options seemed a bit lacking.[/quote:8e4d1]

beer:

You could, realistically, spend hours in the character creation section. Facially ( eek: ) - its deeper than other Create-A-Character games (SMACKDOWN! comes to mind). . .

Youll see words that you've never seen before (the fuck is a sellion) in the menu. Great overall system.

Oh - and the game fucking rocks. I played for 6 hours yesterday, and spent 4 of it in the Imperial City - so many houses. . .so much loot. Definitely a place for my negro blade wielding thief.

The only problem with the game is that if you dont have a SUPER HIGH system - default settings are going to look like shit and you will need to tweak them.
[/quote:8e4d1]
happy:

What system do you have? is 2gb of ram a pretty important upgrade or will my 1gb be enough....
rest of mine is: p4 3.0, 9800 pro 128mb, think i'll need a vid card upgrade?[/quote:8e4d1]

i'm a freaking vampire now.

watchout for part of the main quest. you have to go into a vampire cave. i didn't get bit but contracted some disease and i totally forgot about it and now i'm a vampire and can't go outside during the day unless i feed. you have to do this long ass quest to get a cure too.

SoLiDUS 03-23-2006 07:47 PM

LOL @ vampire :-)

I just let them have my fuckin' gear, took the prison time and now I'm back with a fucking vengeance. Ya'll will pay for takin' my sword! :)

mr.miyagi 03-24-2006 07:40 AM

Been playing the game for a bit, was ages in customizin my character heh, but my card is playing it ok but not up to my standards...my Radeon 9800 pro 128mb has had its extremely long, great life put to the sword...

SO....

I'd like to play the game at full motherfuckin detail if possible, more RAM is a later possible upgrade if needed.

I gots about £150 to spend on a new graphics card, what shall I get??

If you can stretch it a bit further probably an x850xt. £176

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/AGP.html

Or put some cash together for the upcoming 512mb 7800gs which is a 7800gt on the agp format, £282 though.

if you decide to go x850, just so you know ive the same heatsink siting here of that make of x850, the fans a noisy little bastard when in 3d games.

Well seeing as my PC is the noisiest on the face of the earth I could deal with that, maybe with headphones.
Thanks for the suggestion although how much better is this than the nvidia 6800, shall I stick with ATi or go back to Nvidia, hmmmmmmm

I'm looking for performance comparison charts for the ATI Radeon X850 XT 256MB right now, could I play Oblivion on full you think??

Edit: forgot to say my system is AGP, ppl say the Geforce 7600 GT is a similar card, I'll also sell my Radeon 9800 pro, how much you think i'd get for it? heh

geRV 03-24-2006 08:39 AM

Some benchmarks of the x850 here

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/ ... 0xl_5.html

The articles about the pci express version but the performance is the same on the agp version.

Not really sure what settings you could play on, if you want the best performance for agp money cna buy then this is what you want:

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=30502

It'll be on sale at overclockers uk on 31st of this month for £282. That and the x850 imo are your only real options, the other 7800gs some other company brought out is crippled and not worth it.

TGB! 03-24-2006 08:47 AM

Too many people are having problems with nVidia - and saying they cant get the graphically quality that their ATI counterparts are getting. Im thinking of getting an ATI for upgrade.

geRV 03-24-2006 08:53 AM

The nvidia quality issues are due to the fact that when you install the card and drivers an nvidia card is set to "quality" for graphics (second highest setting). Ati cards are set to their full quality settings from the get go.

Most websites review the cards this way as well, so nvidia are gaining a slight speed boost since theyre not running at the highest settings.

I just recently flogged my 6800gt on e-gay, to be honest i don't see much of a quality difference between ati and nvidia. I did however notice the shimering a shitload more on the 6800gt. But when both cards ran at their high settings the image difference was negligible.

At a stretch maybe £50 on ebay. There is no agp 7600gt varient either.

Ive posted my specs and such on there tech help forum. ALOT of poeple are having problems. I posted my problem about a hour ago. And its already on page 4 with 2 replys of people saying they have the same problem and i mena 4 pages of different probelms in a hour?

c312 03-24-2006 02:16 PM

wow, there are a lot of retards on that forum, one guy said that the game was bad because some of the computers posted in one thread were ones Nasa would want and they wouldn't run the game. Then I read some of the specs and there were guys complaining about how their GeForce 4 and FX series wouldn't play the game...one guy even whined about his MX not working...

Im holding off on choosing which card to get - I want to be able to play this game and get the kind of graphics they were pimping in those videos (or at least close to it). Right now, no matter WHAT I tweak, I cant get the human faces to look remotely detailed as they are in the preview videos they have. I dont have a super system obviously, but even nintys graphics - while better looking than mine - still isnt approaching what was seen in the video. The game looks and plays great sure, but damn we were sold on the Filet Mignon, not The Steak - even though the steak is damn good (or haggis. . .haggis for you Gervaise. . .)

The high system complaint IS a valid one though. How many people have the ability to put together a system with two 7900's running in SLI mode with a Dual Core Lightsaber Pentium 4 or M or whatever and 2gigs of high density ram.

mr.miyagi 03-24-2006 05:27 PM

Don't know if people want to disable the startup in-game movies, if so:

To disable all the startup movies, and have it load the menu right away, go to your My Documents>My Games>Oblivion folder, backup and then open Oblivion.ini with Notepad, and where it says:

SIntroSequence=bethesda softworks HD720p.bik,2k games.bik,game studios.bik,Oblivion Legal.bik

Remove the bik files so it says:
SIntroSequence=

Also, where it says:
SMainMenuMovieIntro=Oblivion iv logo.bik

should be:
SMainMenuMovieIntro=

Any progress on the ATI X850XT game footage/movie yet Mr. Gervatron??
I await your video as its so tempting to just buy a new card......

Cool Fool 03-24-2006 06:15 PM

I have the manual for anyone that is interested. Very useful information available as in BETHESDA's efforts to streamline versions of OB across languages - pretty much everything in the game is tool-tipped.

For example - you can mark spots on the map with a blue arrow.

I would love to have the manual: I just recently discovered that once you train a skill 5 times in a level, you can't do another... wish they would've MENTIONED that so my training could've gone towards destruction skills and other stuff.

Hook me up with that manualizzle. dance:
