Not likely since AMD will still have the bang for buck value.

P4 were better than AXP but people still bought them.

For people wanting the fastest cpu available intel will be what people are talking about. Been reading on some forums that am2 and ddr 2 will most likely be slightly slower than current amd system due to the higher latency of ddr 2 and the a64 memory controller preferring faster latencies.

ok update on my friend..

he just plugged in the necessities of his comp, and when he booted no video, and got 3 buzzing sounds like it wasnt posting or something. and no video, and he tried an old pci graphics card that does work for sure.

just tried out FEAR with everything on high. didnt go below 90 fps.
also, can you get better antennas for your wireless card than the one they give you? the one that came with the wireless card is kinda crappy (doesnt go above the "low" status). this is a wireless card that is inside my case, just fyi

Think its possible to buy different antenna's for wireless cards. Hows the noise level on the card playing fear? Spin up much?

Forte 03-19-2006 04:30 PM

nope, can barely notice it. the case fans make more noise than the graphics card.

Has he any parts he can reuse like case, psu, ram or monitor?

If he has all the above you could make something prety decent for $600, if its all from scratch though i doubt you'd get much for $600 in terms of running games at aceptablefps\image quality settings.

$588.47 for the above not including shipping. Not amazing in spec terms but no too bad considering its under $600.

Jin-Roh 03-21-2006 08:04 PM

geRV 03-21-2006 08:07 PM

Forte 03-21-2006 08:31 PM

need some tips on converting fraps videos into .wmv files, or compressing them to an acceptable size? I tried using windows movie maker and it made the video turn into an acid trip.
edit: nvm, d/ling virtualdub so I can compress to a different format.
