The reason I know about the Battle of the Buldge, for forty three years all my dad would tell me about his expierence in WWII, was that he was in the Battle of the Buldge, he would not tell me what happened, just that he was there. He didn't tell me any detials until he was about 80, and then what he did tell me wasn't much,
He said his plattoon was on the front line when the Germans started thier offensive. They knew that the were out manned, and out gunned immediatie, and his second leutenant to him to get everyone and get the hell out. So they started telling everyone to retreat. As they moved back they relized that a guy named Willie was missing. I guess Willie was my dad buddy or something. But for whatever reason my dad said he strated to freak because Willie was back with Germans. But he did not go back, he retreated with the rest of the platoon, He said that they retreated about 4 or 5 miles and then the made a stand.
BTW Willie did show up a couple of days later. He had gotten seperated and had retreated with another unit.
Thats about all I got out of him. He really did not like talking about the war. since I've learned about Willie, I wish I would have asked my dad if Willie made it through the war.
