I know, I'm not the smartest, and I could've gotten this for a lot less, but not as much as you say, not even close. Tell me how this adds up to $1000

FX-53 ($800)
2GB DDR RAM (at least $400)
ATI Radeon 9600XT Celestica Gold Edition 128MB ($230)
Audigy 2 AZ ($100)
480 Watt PS ($70)
Case ($100 at least for a good case)
Asus SK8V - VIA K8T800 ($150?)
160GB ($100?)
DVD-ROM 16x ($25)
DVD-RW External ($200)
CD-RW ($50)
Floppy ($5)
XP Pro ($150)
Zalman ZM-RS6F Headphones ($70)
Internal Flash Card Read/Writer ($30?)
2 Year Warranty ($200)

You do the math.

Conscript 07-14-2004 08:42 PM

Don't change the timings on your RAM unless you absolutely know it can
take it. I recommend leaving them at SPD values...

Himmler 07-15-2004 01:05 AM

i've read that changing ram timings wont really affect much, if its already around 2-3-3-6. i doubt id see im provment if i changed it just a bit. i already see great performace. i dont think i'd want to change it anyway.

Whats it gonna do?Blow up?Hell no..No ram has ever died by having its timings changed.

No, but if the system fails to boot, you'll get annoyed quickly enough. The
point is: unless you know the timings your RAM supports, don't fuck around
unless you like resetting your BIOS. 2-3-3-6 is fine...

Resetting the whole bios takes like 2 minutes(removing cmos bat and and moving the jumper and then pumping your settings back into the BIOS)

SoLiDUS 07-15-2004 03:56 AM

Yeah, and it's an annoyance if you're unsure of which settings will work with
your particular component. My point still stands: leave the timings at JEDEC
SPD values.

700 bucks, same thing as an alienware can do.

i had almost the same as that, but it ran not even HALF as good. for one, fx-53 will out perform the 3000+, and you dont actually think 512mb of ram can compete with 1gig+? i have a dvd-rom, external dvd-rw, double the hdd space...so tell me..how are they the same?

ROFL... FX-53 is better than a 3000+ but it's not twice as good. Not even 50% better, yet is costs over 200% more.

Himmler 07-15-2004 09:15 AM

i said, my old pc (2800+) was not even half as good. not that one to this one.

resetting the cmos isnt really a problem for me, but it is an annoyance. so im just going to leave the timings alone. freak:

geRV 07-15-2004 11:45 AM

Mohaa looks a lot better with everything on, i can run 1600x1200 6xfsaa 16x anisotropic filtering and get 100-200 fps in some of the maps that were more renound as being frame rapers, like bridge.

(big ass pic i know) EDIT: IMG tags smoked...heh

Kinda makes you want tp play through these games, i said a while ago its funny how only lately has it been possible for people to play games and see and experience them as the developer intended, mohaa falls into this catagory. Gotta go see what omaha is like. biggrin:

how many bags of coke did the 800xt cost ya?

geRV 07-15-2004 12:15 PM

lol, was just keeping some cash aside for the upgrade, got mosta my parts before last christmas, when i got the doom leak i knew for a change id have to buy a top of the line card to play it and hl2 properly. Worth it though, my systems pretty much top of the line and didn;t cost a bomb, like £700 or so in total, playing games looking like that makes it worth while rock:

mr.miyagi 07-15-2004 12:35 PM

For a while I haven't given any thought to upgrading my stuff, I was happy with my BF1942/Desert Combat gaming but now seeing all these FPS figures, the nifty textures, etc...........its got my gaming juices flowing again

My PC is far too old for a super upgrade but I wonder how little I can cough up for a noticable improvement, my PC is:

Dell 4300 1.5GHz
1023mb SDRAM
Geforce FX5200 128mb
40gb with only like 3gigs spare
19" screen

I was thinking maybe a new m'board that will let me go for faster processors but I don't know what the prices are these days.........I'd be happy with the rest, just would want to upgrade mobo and cpu....

I don't think it's possible to save it!!! cry:

Where did you get a X800XT from???? How much?

I'll cancel my order for a 6800GT if I can find a store with X800XT's in stock.

mr.miyagi 07-15-2004 02:54 PM

Theres a comparison test, can't answer your question though...

Himmler 07-15-2004 02:55 PM

http://www.reichnation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=786

elstatec 07-15-2004 02:56 PM

geRV 07-15-2004 02:57 PM

Himmler 07-15-2004 03:12 PM
