Intresting enough, that photo was a reinactment of the iwo jima flag raising , made in order to make the whole scene look more heroic. The real flag raising was no wear near as spectacular as that one. So the little fact given there was a bunch of bull.

Wrong, the original picture of the iwo jima flagraising was a picture taken after the combat, there was a reinactment of it done for the statue as far as i know but the picture was taken as it happened and wasn't a reinactment.

actually i read? that the first flag planted belonged to a CO and he wanted his personal flag back...so up the mountain they went again with the 2nd flag as the battle raged on....and i thought 2 survived..including Ira Hayes?

PS, I got this really short guy at my work who is going to wear a lepricon outfit. He's 5,4 and does a good irsih accent. Its going to make me piss my pants.

Ive yet to hear a good irish accent outside of ireland, even gay hollywood movies can't get it right.

You need to go to St. John's, Newfoundland or some of the small towns on the Avalon Peninsula. VERY noticeable irish accent.

Obviously it's not. The bombing of those two cities was to force Japanese surrender, and ultimately to avoid an invasion of Japan itself....it wasn't payback for pearl harbour.....The events were at different ends of the war.

The Japanese government at the time was partly to blame after the first nuclear bomb was dropped - They had a second chance to surrender but didn't. The war was clearly over for them.
