you. sry. didnt clarify

Well I for one have a hard time with the bible. Beleive me I wanna beleive its all true but science just seems to point to a much dif beginning.
But really, in the giant picture, the complexity of science and physics seems to point to a creator. I only say that because of the absolute impossibility that is life so says science. Makes you wonder. Or me anyway IMPO |

You're hopelessly enthralled, Duke. What has the Bible done for the good of
man ? Nothing. Science has given us all that you take for granted but which is making your life a pleasurable experience. Your precious Bible is nothing more than a collection of stories and suggestions to live your life by, not the incredible written words of an entity beyond the physical world. |

The earliest written work man has is called the Enuma Elish, this was written about four thousand years before Christ. It is almost exactly the same as the story of Creation in the book of Genesis. Much of the New Testament is fairy stories, but the Old Testament and the story of creation is the best thing that we have for an explanation of life & the universe. http://enuma-elish.fw.nu/ http://www.christiancourier.com/archive ... heists.htm |

You can't do that because I NEVER WROTE IT. I do know, however, that it has given us a standard of living far exceeding that which was promised by those enthralling others with the teachings of the Bible and the rest of the mind-numbing religions. By the way, thank you. What for, you ask ? You just told me that those who wrote the Bible basically copied their story from the Enuma. As for the Bible and Genesis being the best explanation we have for creation and everything that is ? I feel sorry for you. You're running out of mystical events and phenomena: just as science has de- mystified a slew of things considered spiritual in the past, so it will debunk the rest until nothing more is left, leaving you weeping in anger of all the lost time praying to an entity which has no other existence than in your mind. |

Your words do not anger me as mine seemed to have angered you, I am not religious. Or perhaps I misunderstand and you do not intend to include such sarcasm in your posts, but you are actually as rude as this in a public debate without realising it. You thank me for informing you about the Enuma Elish and its links with Genesis. But do not have the common courtesy to read up on the subject before you reply and end up shooting yourself in the foot. If you had gone to the links I had posted regarding the subject, then perhaps you would have found, to your amazement, that the Enuma Elish has some uncanny resemblences to theories & modern science. Now I must take the great delight in educating you on your failure to read up on the subject. The Enuma Elish gives a rough description of the creation of the universe as well as the basic elements; "Maritu, Maritu (mardjou, the feild of electro-magnet), Son, majesty, majesty of the Gods!"(the materials) Clothed in the radiant mantle of the Gods(materials), worn high above His head Five fearsome rays were clustered above Him. It's bad form to engage in a debate without having read up on the subject at hand. All you have done is run your mouth with a desperate attempt to annoy & insult whilst giving no evidence to your arguments. Hopefully next time you post you won't make yourself look so ridiculous |

True, science provides great standards of living, SO? How does that have anything to do with this debate? |

look. my theory of the big bang is this: God said it, and BANG it happened.

[quote:2bea9] This long poem was written principally in the twelth century BCE to celebrate the city of Babylon. It recounts the creation of the universe and the events that lead up to the building of Babylon, home for the gods. It evolved from Sumerian myths and the text that it is taken from is Assyrian, an empire that followed the Sumerian. The almost complete text is set out on seven tablets wih about 150 lines on each tablet. It was written probably to be sung at festivals in honour of the gods and Babylon. In its original language, it is written with no rhyme or alliteration but with some assonance that lends it a hypnotic sound. It probably sounded similar to Georgian chants in being sung by several voices. [/quote:2bea9] rolleyes: This isn't a debate. I'm trying to help the religious folks here "see the light". You are correct: I have no sense of diplomacy and little to no patience with incompetence. Modern interpretation of what the Enuma conveys can make it appear similar to science when associating the elements together in quasi intelligible ways. So ? We did the same with Nostradamus. I won't bother to look into it because I have no use for it. What you fail to realize is that THIS is also nothing more than someone's take on how things came to be. There is no shred of evidence or any factual datum to back any of it up, unlike our science, which is making steady progress. In any case, I won't annoy you any longer, as we won't be agreeing on things anytime soon. |
But there was fucking NOTHING, what could have caused the explosion[/quote:067dc]
God did. He said it, it happened. i'm sorry, but just saying what i believe. I dont mean to pry into what you beleive, or prove you wrong. their is no evedence that ANY of this happened. i justs beleave God created everything, and that teh Bible is true. |
Here is problem here. Everyone is taking the bible and readking it and understanding it word for word exactly. From this you take a side. Either Science or that of Faith. The truth is that both sides are wrong. have been brought up to beleive in God but in a more modern idealistic way. Yourn ot supposed to take the bible word for word. Thats not what is was meant to be. The truth is the bible is to be taken as a read between the lines. Get something out of the story. Take the story of creation. This isn't meant to be taken literally. This just is a lesson. Man is supposed to learn something from it. The story's in the bible or a large quantity of them are inflated to teach man a valuble lesson. Usually of love for one naother etc etc. Taking this faith to literally can cuase fanatical behavior or cuase the opposite of atheism. People nowadays seem to not know chow to take the bible. For one part though I don't apprciate fanatics preaching their lies and small mindedness, but on the other hand I don't like seeing an atheist take what I have beleived in my whole life and calling it a bunch of bull shit. Telling me my life was a lie and everything I ever beleived in is incorrect seems to frustrate. How do I think of God" well. this God is somethiing to big for us to picture. I also beleive it isn't the same loving being we all think it to be. I just beleive it is something greater that we can not understand. Beleiving this greatness does not exist means their are things in your life that will not be answered.
The fact is, after 18 years of life.. I have learned one thing "Their is a God... And I ain't him." 'Fromthe movie Rudy ' Im neither fanatic nor atheist, Only that I am what I beleive. |
if god exists, then why hasn't anything happened since this time period of jesus when the bible takes place. people who are atheists and kill people are allowed to live longer than religious people. it doesnt make sense to me
