Computer keeps restarting...

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone can help me out with a problem I am having.

Sometimes, not all the time, my computer will just decide to restart it self when I am in the middle of a game. I think it started a little bit after I put in my new RAM (1Gig of PC3200). I had to overclock the Memory Frequency to 200Mhz so I can use the RAM at its full capacity. Now, my computer just keeps restarted when I am playing a game for some reason, and I cannot figure out why. Anyone have any ideas on how to help me? Thanks guys.

Get any kind of xp error when you reboot like your sytem has recovered bla bla this pos here was responsible? Sounds like somethings overheating or a gfx card error. Might wanna try different drivers for your card and if anything overclocked knocking it back a few mhz closer to default settings.

Yes I do get this error, says windows has recovred from a serious error. I just played mohaa for about an hr and everything was fine. i just installed new drivers for my gfx card a day or so ago, but i was getting this error already. right now my cpu is running at about 29°C, i think its even lower though. but it did crash once when it was about 33°C. i was thinking it is probaly the ram, but I dont know and I dont know how to figure out. any more ideas?

that happened to me, so i took it in to see what is wrong. it was that one of my 256mb ram card was dead. i was running on only the other 256mb card instead of 512mb. it rebooted always during games. u better get it fixed or once ur computer reboots too many times due to the crashing, it wrecks ur hard drive. i had to get a new hard drive cuz i didnt get it fixed for a while.

Jotun 03-19-2004 07:15 PM

happens to me all the time, its a device failure, i think it was my video card. sometimes it does because it overheats. i dont really know how to fix it, it just goes away for a while. just turn your comp off when you arent using it so it cools down.

How do I check the heat of my cpu?

Sgt. Paine 03-19-2004 07:21 PM

thermometer oOo:

Did you ever stop to think that maybe its because you overclocked your ram? Depending on the manufactuer, you may find that your ram dosnt like being overclocked. Try not overclocking it and see if it helps. Granted you'll take a proformance hit, but since you crash in the middle of a game Id say your getting pretty shitty proformance.

a simular things happening to mine- its definately over heating.. but i only have 1 slot for a fan which is used

so its looking like a new case so i can put more fans in

which way is best for fans?

blowing air in or blowing air out? mines currently blowing air out - would it help to turn it round?

Johnj 03-20-2004 03:52 AM

You should be looking to equalize the air flow, so if your first fan blows out, the second should suck.
