Real Military "Vets" post

Since there are a few threads for "Forum Vets" I thought I would start one for real veterans from any country's service. I'm a veteran US Air Force NCO. I was assigned to duty stations in three different countries.

This is also in honor of "Veterans Day" or "Remembrance Day" or whatever it's called in your country. Cheers to the Veterans!!

ninty 11-05-2002 02:13 PM

I will be in a couple months, well in the army at least. Probably wouldn't call myself a vet, more like a new recruit. biggrin:

Bleed_4_Me 11-05-2002 02:15 PM

Good luck ninty9 and always try to do your best! biggrin:

ninty 11-05-2002 02:19 PM

Thanks a lot. biggrin: I will, I hope. evil:

COOKIE28 11-05-2002 08:26 PM

Star85 11-05-2002 09:46 PM

And remember, point the barrel away from your face. happy:

ninty 11-05-2002 10:03 PM

Really?

Didn't know that. Thanks for the tip.

Vance 11-05-2002 10:30 PM

Ninty, is their a specific Divison you want to join?

ninty 11-05-2002 10:39 PM

I will be joining the Calgary Highlanders Regiment because it is the only one in the City. I'm going into reserve so hey will keep me in my home city. Then in a few years I might beable to do a tour. They split the thing up into two infantry regiments this year cause a whole bunch of them went to Bosnia about a month ago for 6 months.

So i'm pretty sure i'll be with the Highlanders as an infanteer, and from what i've heard, i'll be in B company because thats where the new recruits go.

Alias 11-06-2002 12:22 AM

Good Luck Alias. Remember your reporting statement "Sir Airman Alias reports as ordered." And you will be fine.

Bleed_4_Me 11-06-2002 05:20 AM

Good Luck Alias! You'll probably hear this alot: Airman, give me a 341! HMMMM I don't even know if they still use 341's! oOo:

I'm enlisting next October in DEP as a Combat Controller.

What are you going in as?

lol thanks Sindonesia. We have meetings once a month while in DEP and I kept screwing it up. Im actually going to have to say "Sir, Trainee Mckiernan Reports as Ordered ". I kept saying "Sir, Trainee Mckiernan reporting as ordered"

Bleed, my brother got a couple 341's written up. Dont they write them out for both good and bad behavior? I think he was 1/1 on that. Only reason I know what they are. I hope I get 50 or somethin biggrin:

Zapotoski, im going in as a Communications/Computer Systems Operations Apprentice. The job really sounded interesting and its in the feild that I wanted. I also didnt want to wait next year cool:

Alias 11-06-2002 08:13 PM

retarted' thing didnt bump this to the top. not like anyone cares but that was weird.

Sindonesia 11-07-2002 02:22 AM

Don't count on ever getting a 341 pulled for good behavior. They only take them if you mess up. Here is a helpful hint try and wear the same uniform for the whole 6 weeks but of course change underwear and socks. This will save you time on setting up your living area.

Once everything is folded and passes the first inspection leave it as is. The rest is all easy stuff.

One thing I could never understand was when you go into the chow hall they have a big menu posted on the wall but you can't look at it. Head and eyes straight forward, so you are looking at the back of someones head the whole time.

Good Luck again. Stick with it, there will be times when you will wonder what the hell made you join but basic is nothing like the real AF. The real AF is pretty relaxed now days.

Sotilas Jane 11-07-2002 04:02 AM

Joining the forces was one of the worst decisions in my life.. No wait, it was not my decision.

Mandatory bull... hake: hake: hake:

Sindonesia 11-07-2002 04:27 AM

Being in the Air Force is really nice, there basic training isn't bad and we have the best living conditions. Another good thing about any form of military is you are getting paid every 1st and 15th, no matter if you work or not.

Yeah right Sind... 12 Hour shifts, Raised Force Protection Conditions, AEF Deployments, MOPP training, Security, Security, Security, PT, etc. What AFSC are you in? I was a 3C0X1 in a Combat Comm Squadron and I had to get out just so I could be around to watch my kids grow up! Doesn't sound too relaxed to me. Other than that, the AF is a "Great Way of Life" freak:

Sindonesia 11-07-2002 06:09 AM

Damn you didn't reenlist for the bonus? 3C0's get a $30,000 bonus now. I'm trying to cross train into that. biggrin: I'm currently in CE. cry:

Sindonesia 11-07-2002 06:11 AM

Almost forgot we work 12 shifts every now and then but it's on a Panama schedule so it isn't that bad. I have only worked 12 shifts for about a month since I've been here and I have been stationed here for a year.

Bleed_4_Me 11-07-2002 06:11 AM

No dude. I got a 40K raise when I got out cuz I'm UNIX and NT certified. That's the salary increase I got above pay and allowances when I got out. Plus I can wear civies and let me hair grow all other the place!

Sindonesia 11-07-2002 06:13 AM

I want to cross train to that field to get the bonus and I think I would like working on computers.

Bleed_4_Me 11-07-2002 06:15 AM

One, if not, the best career fields around. I was actually a 4M0X1 when I first joined and I didn't like working in the hospital. Too many fake people! I got into the Comm Computer field and never looked back. Have you taken the EDPT?

Sindonesia 11-07-2002 06:17 AM

No haven't taken it. I was thinking I could just learn everything in Tech School. biggrin: How long of Tech School is it?

Judas 11-07-2002 06:20 AM

Ok i asked this in another thread and no one answered ... why do you army guys always look so pissed off , like cpt . Zapotoski there ? Put a smile on for christ sakes biggrin:

Army? Bite your tongue. Air Force!

Sindonesia 11-07-2002 06:25 AM

I'm always biggrin: maybe because I'm in the Air Force.

It's twelve weeks at Keesler AFB MS. When I went it was only six weeks but that was a few years ago.

Sindonesia 11-07-2002 06:28 AM

Not to long of school. Keesler is not to far from here either and it's a nice place. Thank god it's not Sheppard.

Zap. USMC 11-07-2002 06:29 AM

pffffft... airforce hard!? From what I heard, on a normal day, sometimes you don't even do PT (Maybe after work if you feel like it) and you never do anything.

Alias, what did you have to score on your ASVAB to qualify for that job? That job looks interesting, it seems you will be learning how to fix Personal Computers and the like. Right now I'm getting A+ Qualified and getting my Network+ qualification so I might stick with my desicion in going in as a Combat Controller... although, it depends if I may the training or not, since I hear CCT training is damn hard.

Did you get any bonuses, etc?

Heh, thanks Alias. So for all the questions!!

Sindonesia 11-07-2002 06:36 AM

How come I can't see your reply Cpt . Zapotoski? It says you posted something but it's not showing up.

Sindonesia 11-07-2002 06:38 AM

Nevermind there it is now.

You will have PT in the morning if you want to or not. The part that sucks the most is going to all the classes they have set up for you. The PT isn't that bad if your in half way decent shape.

You wont get the bonus until you pass the course.

Bleed_4_Me 11-07-2002 06:39 AM

[quote="Cpt. Zapotoski":eb6a7]pffffft... airforce hard!? [/quote:eb6a7]

My AFSC is certainly not hard, but it is stressful. Talk about hard AND stressful. CCT!

Vance 11-07-2002 06:48 AM

WEll if anyone wanted to know i want to go in the Army's 10th Mountain Division. Ever since i saw them in Afghanistan and Somalia (BHD) i have always wanted to be with them.

Bleed_4_Me 11-07-2002 08:00 AM

Very Kewl. A VERY distinguished unit. I may be an AF veteran but I highly respect all other service members for making the commitment to serve their country! Hope you like mountain/hill/rock climbing! cool: cool: cool:

[2ndS.S.]Enigma 11-07-2002 08:45 AM

What do you mean by that?

BTW - Do you have AOL or ICQ, I would like to talk to you more about this.

Vance 11-07-2002 05:26 PM

Is it nice? Cool weather? Nice mountains?
