Group Claims Creation of First Human Clone
HOLLYWOOD (Reuters) - A scientist associated with a group that believes extraterrestrials created mankind claimed Friday that her company had produced the first clone of a human being.
The company, Clonaid, announced at a news conference Friday in Hollywood, north of Miami, that it had cloned a baby girl who appeared to have been born healthy. "I'm very, very pleased to announce that the first baby clone is born," chemist Brigitte Boisselier said. "She was born yesterday at 11:55 a.m." Boisselier, who heads Clonaid, which is linked to a sect called the Raelians, would not give more details about the location or identity of the baby." "She is fine," Boisselier said. "We call her Eve between us." The Raelians, who claim 55,000 followers around the world, believe life on Earth was sparked by extraterrestrials who arrived 25,000 years ago and created humans through cloning. Founded by Claude Vorihon, who describes himself as a prophet and calls himself Rael, the group believes cloning could extend human life for hundreds of years. Clonaid is viewed skeptically by most scientists, who doubt the group's technical ability to clone a human being. Though providing no proof at all today, Boisselier said independent experts will confirm the baby is a clone through DNA testing. Cattle, mice, sheep and other animals have been cloned with mixed success. Some animals have displayed defects later in life. Scientists fear the same could happen with cloned humans. Clonaid has been racing the Italian fertility doctor Severino Antinori to produce the first cloned baby. Antinori said last month he expected one of his patients to give birth to a cloned baby in January. ----------------------------------------------- eek: I believe this as much as I believe that Al Gore invented the internet. eek: |
Yea and I invented the rifle

These are the same doctors that believe Extra Terrestrials started life on earth.

These are the doctors that believe Extra Terrestrials started life on earth....cloning is interesting, but i like the randomness of birth, not a predestined child.

The ironic thing is if it was a bunch of government scientist official people that had cloned a baby (assuming they really have done so) then it would be a great day in american history blah blah, but aparently george bush is wanting to impose a ban on human cloning. a touch of jealosy perhaps? It would be bad PR for a group of freaks to have done something like that before anyone on government tax wages does.

I dont think it has to do with jealosy, the Bush administration has said nothing about this "case"... These people deserve the skeptisim they are getting, they said that they tried 10 times and out of 10 times the succeded with 5, 1 already born and 4 on the way...now a 50% success rate is not very believable I mean it took over 260 tries to clone that sheep Dolly and that sheep it already showing problems and they showed no photos or charts or any other kind of proof. I will not give them the benifit of the doubt unless it can be proven to a t that they succeded....I think its all a big hoax. |
what a load of crap, and they probably won't let the government examen
|
I think it's a load of horse shit. Unless they have un-deniable proof.

This is why I support abortion.

Doesn't the US have laws against cloning? I'm not sure if it's that or stem cell research.

the bloody religious nuts banned stem cell research. obviously they think if someone is paralyzed due to spinal damage, etc. then it is "God's plan" for that person to live paralyzed and we shouldn't try to grow their spinal cord back with stem cells. I wonder what those same nuts would say if I took an entrenching tool across one of their backs and put him/her in a wheelchair? |
Preach on stryker ,i agree, i wish wecould grow body parts, someone loses a finger, hell we will grow one for you!

Regardless of whether or not the group has succeeded, someone will do it
soon enough, if it hasn't already been done by your military scientists. My only beef with this would be accepting the fact that these nuts did it before other more acceptable laboratories did it. This screams hoax: Clon-aid has yet to prove their service works... and I'm guessing once you pay the price for your clone, only 30% of your money can come back to you in the event of a cancellation... Nice scam ? evil: |
The woman should visit the dentist and the beauty parlor before making clones. Man, she was just plain nasty.
