Trivia question

What was the first building in the world to have air conditioning?

cameltoe 01-13-2003 01:17 AM

well they had the deal where there was a giant ice cube in the basement with a fan and it would spread it thru a series of vents throughout the building, so i donno if you would consider that AC but its an early form of it.. but my non smart ass guess is a empire state building

geRV 01-13-2003 01:19 AM

1902 -- Willis Carrier builds the first air conditioner to combat humidity inside a printing company. Controlling the humidity in printing companies and textile mills was the start of managing the inside environments.

1906 -- Willis Carrier patents his invention calling it an "Apparatus for Treating Air."

1906 -- Stuart W. Cramer coins the term "Air Conditioning."

Nope happy:

"In 1902, only one year after Willis Haviland Carrier graduated from Cornell University with a Masters in Engineering, the first air (temperature and humidity) conditioning was in operation, making one Brooklyn printing plant owner very happy. Fluctuations in heat and humidity in his plant had caused the dimensions of the printing paper to keep altering slightly, enough to ensure a misalignment of the colored inks. The new air conditioning machine created a stable environment and aligned four-color printing became possible."

Nope, well to answer it its actually the royal victoria hospital in belfast. Its been standing over 175 years and had the first airconditioning system in it with big ass fans in the basement (around 10 feet in size or so) circulating cool air round the building.

biggrin:

Zoner 01-13-2003 01:06 PM

Yup, i seen a pic of them in the newspaper a couple of months back, think theyre like 10-14 feet in height.

Oddball 01-13-2003 03:05 PM

I would have those in the front of my house and if salesmen come to the door or Jehovah's Witness I just go *click*. Guy lands somewhere in the outskirts of Brisbane.

14 ft. fans, shit you could practice parachuting on those if they faces upwards.
