A geforce 3, like mine, is the best for any game, really. I play it at 800x600 with Quincunx AA, all details at max, and 8x Anisotropic filtering. Very nice. And 60 FPS.

But the Radeon 8500 is really nice, too. I prefer Nvidia cards however, looks like unreal 2 and doom 3 are build on 'em.

Eyyyyy...it's MANNY...lol and I thought I was the only one on Earth who played that game.

I'm rather fond of my Geforce 2. *ducks* it's served me quite well so far. Probably wont' upgrade for a while.

Before you buy a card make sure you check your motherboard to see if it is compatible.

Another thing, the Radeon 8500 is nice (but not anymore power than a Geforce if your Geforce has the newest detonator drivers), but ATI is just as bad as Compaq in terms of drivers and support.

hey, how do you have Quin and 8x Ansio on at the same time? I thought those were settings in the same area.

Dunno, I personally think the GeForce3 is still WAY overpriced.

A great card for value + performance is the GeForce2 MX/400. It has 64 MB of RAM, and costs about 1/2 the price of the GeForce3!!

jonesy-the-cat 01-07-2002 09:33 AM

Not anymore man. The geforce3 ti 200 is about $150 now, not much more than the geforce2 mx 400. Check out pricewatch.com. I just ordered one http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

Tyler Durden 01-07-2002 09:34 AM

I don't like pricewatch that much... Its ok tho ...

I got my Gforce2mx 400 (64mb agp) for $50...

Thanks Tripper for the sig !

jonesy-the-cat 01-07-2002 09:35 AM

oh, also...

performance-wise, the geforce3 ti 200 is vastly superior to the geforce2's, and only a little inferior to the geforce3 ti 500. just a difference of clock speed. and they are starting to make them to be overclocked with software.

Frost 01-08-2002 06:53 AM

Yea I just got a ti-200 and Ive got it running a little faster than a ti-500, for only 167 http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

Radeon 8500 runs with perfection for me, even with my PIII 700. Just purchased it for $210 for the retail boxed version. Geforce is expensive but nice, but ATI has been releasing drivers often to get all of the features of their card up and running. Its up to you, I was planning on getting a Ti200 until I saw the 8500 for $210, then I just couldnt pass it up.

I use a GeForce 2 GTS Pro 64 MB DDR, works really well, usually 60 fps at 1024x768.

hhmmm.....then why would John Carmack say that the Radeon 8500 would fare better in Doom3 then the GF3?

01-08-2002 10:45 AM

Hey I got a Radeon 7500 and it runs amazing, I run it on 1028x768 and everything on full. and I am still geetting like 60 fps. never lags and chugs down at all in SP and MP. depnds on servers. It cost me $200 Cnd.
