Just blew my car engine.

Welp i just toasted my engine. How i dont yet know... what part i dont really know. All i know is that as i pulled into my appartment complex, and as i slowed around a corner seeing the fire department semi blocking the road. I then sligtly hit the gas seeing it was not blocked, and my engine died. Like it stalled... only its a automatic. So thinking it simply stalled like a auto will rarly do on a slight so, i attempted to restart it. It tried to turn over but failed. Tried again nothing. So i pop the hood and get out. I walk up front and get down under the car to see.... 2 large chunks of metal and a few smaller pieces mixed with slowly leaking oil.

Knowing some shit about cars i start looking for the source only to be confounded as to where its coming from. It fairly thin metal that i dont think would have come from the oil pan since its a slow leak. I dont know. Im fairly ticked off, just having toasted my engine with no clue whats wrong. More so that i only have about $1000 to my name so a replacment seems a ways off.

AHhh this fucking blows...

Ah, my friend, I don't believe you blew your engine. I think you might of done the same thing I did. I blew the transmission box.

On my first car, going 90 in a stationwagon for about 6 miles (yes, I asked for it, heh) I shot a rod through the engine, and sprayed oil all over the back of the car.

On my current car, I was driving, and the car just died. Couldn't switch gears, start it back up, or anything. Found out it was the tranny.

So yeah, it might be the engine, but just make sure, cuz you did the same exact thing I did; car died, saw the oil & metal, etc.

Miscguy 03-27-2003 08:03 PM

I changed gears just fine.

hmm...one of the might have broke, if so then it would have thrased around & compleatly distroeyed the engin. seriously theirs so many things that could have gone wrong. what year & kind is the car?

You may have blown an engine and you didn't hear anything?? kinda odd if you ask me. So, what you're trying to say is when you go to crank it, nothing happens? Does the starter engage and turn the flywheel or does it simply lock? See if you can turn the enging over by hand.

Xorcist [USA] 03-27-2003 09:04 PM

it could be oil leaking from the transfer pants case, or quite possibly the pants valve is worn out. could be that the pants in the differential are shot.

Oh i heard some clunking, but it was really short and not to loud. I cleaned the little bits that fell off. They have some gouges in them, looks like something dug into them pretty good. Like the presure of gouging the lines simply overstressed the metal and it gave way. I'll see about getting some pictures of the shards.

Miscguy 03-27-2003 09:50 PM

Oh and yes the starter motor turns it but but nothing happens.

03-27-2003 09:58 PM

ok kids. there r 3 things you needs for a car to tun. compression, gas, and spark. and if you have all 3 then check timing. simple i would guess spark or gas. take a plug out put on metal surface and turn motor over, look for a spark. if you have that check fuel supply. dont know what you have carb .or fuel inj. if carb just pull back throotle plate look for gas. fuel injection find gas line take it off turn car over, should spray out. compresion your fucked. lots of cash. if you have all 3 then timing bad. not to much cash 300$. hope that helps some what.

03-27-2003 10:00 PM

but i just re read you post sound like you threw a rod out the bottom.

Miscguy 03-27-2003 10:08 PM

Have you read any of this thread?

Yes the metal chunks i have sitting in my room have ass loads to do with my fuel line or timing. You need more than those three things ass hat... try Air for one more.

Yes i have spark, yes i have fuel. Come saturday when i get some fucking time off from work im gonna go under the car and remove the plastic bit blocking my view and i'll figure out where the metal came from and assess the damage.

P.s. I rebuilt 350 chevy motors and made a drag motor out of a big block. I probably know more than you when it comes down to knowing how an engine works and how to fix it. This however is a first for me, typically its pretty fucking simple to say "yup, its pootched". This instance though i've never heard of anything like it.

Miscguy 03-27-2003 10:09 PM

Damn caught yourself...

Anyhow i dont think i tossed a rod, would have been a bit messier, louder and typically dosnt happen reving 1000 at 5mph.

Sergeant_Scrotum 03-27-2003 10:14 PM

could have been put on improperly? maby a mad part from the factory? who knows. btw it sounds like whatever is talking about a lawn mower engin.

03-27-2003 10:21 PM

nice hostile reply. try and help some one and thats the thanks. i rebuilt ever type of moter there is. and i went to school for it. so dont assume for a second i dont know what i am talking about. thank you. you know so much but posted here hmm. a 350 is a kids motor any one could do that. i could rebuild one of them in a few hours, from the crank up easy shit. sorry for trying to help you. ohh and usally air dont just go unless you get a major plug up some where, or you get to much air. and i have seen rods blow and the car run with out a knock. i think my 20 plus years mean i know a little about cars. buy a dodge. here come the mopar flames. tell that to my 440 six pack 68 dodge charger.

Sergeant_Scrotum 03-27-2003 10:41 PM

dodge is 1337! my 89 aries still runs biggrin: . its about to fall to peices though cause the body is shit cry: . anyways i just dsint think you knew what you were talking about cause you were typing as bad as i do. biggrin:

03-27-2003 10:51 PM

car problem

AND THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION IS....you broke your timeing belt. you timeing belt keeps the upper and lower part of your motor in senk. if your lucky itll be no big deal. lucky you wernt going fast when it went. on the other hand its possible you bent the valves. have it checked at a garage. you might be surprised how little it costs.. or how much depending on the damage that was done. DONT TRY TO RESTART THE CAR. your screwin it up even more when you do that. let me know if i was right. and i think i am.
