Are you talking about his extensive knowledge of the English language, demonstrated in the post above? biggrin: |
Ok, i've been out of the Techno loop for years so these may be obsolete to you guys but here goes.
LA Style - James Brown is dead The Movement - Jump Apotheosis - O Fortuna R.T.Z. Belgium - Dance your ass off Like i said, these songs are from the early 90's and it's all the techno i know. |
I always liked the songs by Underworld and there are some good ones by Prodigy. The new Matrix I am sure will have some kick ass songs too. Some of the songs from Chemical Bros are good. Not sure if any of this is your kind of music, but I like the rock and techno kind of songs. Not just the trande or dance, reminds me too much of disco.
|
Wow, you guys are total n00bs.
First of all, it isn't techno, it is fucking DANCE. Techno is a very specific sub-genre of dance. Most of you would be too trapped in the mainstream mold to be able to appreciate REAL techno. As for good DANCE music, I would suggest S.L.A.M. as a good introduction to the largest and most popular genre of music in the world. It's minimalist, not too crazy, and really good to listen to while you're hanging out with friends. Get either "Alien Radio" or "Fabric 9" by them. The former is a long set made more for release on CD, although it had a couple of records ripped from the set. The latter was a set they played in the UK club, "Fabric" If that doesn't float your boat (i hate mainstream radio whores) then you should try Paul Oakenfield. Again, his music is more accessible to people used to pop culture than a lot of other really good music that people spit on (eminem is a cocksucker) because it has no lyrics and they're too fucking stupid to try and understand what's being said in a song with no words. If that doesn't work, you could always try Progressive House.. often referred to as the "bridge" to the Dance genre. Very pop-ish music.. often here trip-hop influences in the beats. If you still can't find anything you like, you are truly an American. More than 75% of the American population dislikes the dance genre of music. Embarassing considering that dance is the most popular genre of music in the world by a very, very, very long shot. Ignorance abounds here. |
dont type in that small font, my eyes already hurt from looking at the screen hake:

Noctis....what the hell are you trying to say here? You lost me.
Are you saying the songs that were posted are not Techno? The songs i posted were from a store bought CD labled "Techno". The comment about "Americans" could've been omitted from your post....that really wasn't necessary in this topic. As for genre of music, times dictate what we listen to and also what we label them. I'm a fan of Freestyle but not the Freestyle you're accustomed to. Freestyle from the 80's vs today is totally different. One is dance and the other more rap orientated. Same applies for Techno. Techno changed so much during the past 10 years that i have a hard time distinguishing what is what. The older Techno is more "industrial" than today's Techno. |
Dance, Techno, whatever the fuck it's called is crap, simple as that. No talent, no structure, just the same bullshit repeating over and over and over and over and over. Thats my opinion ofcourse.

No, what you posted Arkan was dance music.
Techno (since the late 80s, anyway) has always been generally very mechanic, artificial music. What I'm saying is that people completely mislabel a lot of music as techno. If you've heard it on the radio, or in a club, it's probably dance music, not techno. I'll see if I can dig up a good techno song for you guys to download and compare to S.L.A.M. so that you can understand the difference. And BallWook, I'm kind of disappointed that you of all people would jump the Eminem-and-I-think-techno (it's dance, damnit)-is-for-homos bandwagon. When you can write an 80-minute set of music with 15+ layers a song, then you can call them no-talent. Most of the people who write dance music are more brilliant than you or I could ever comprehend being. And that's saying a lot, because I'm assuming you're mildly intelligent at the very least, and I get harassed by Mensa on a monthly basis. |

Every musical genre to me is like that. Some good stuff....... alot of shitty stuff. |
technolgical music is advanced and difficult to compose, although it is not as difficult as preparing music for an orchestra as the orchestra is made during the process of composing

Meh, you can say that about anything....Until you try to make the music you're fucking with, your opinions mean nothing. I mean, if I were ignorant enough, I would say that most of todays rock music is just people smashing guitars with their fingers and screaming out of tune like maniacs. I would top it off by saying that there is no skill involved.....But I wouldn't say that, because I know better than that. Most people on these forums don't and they sound really fucking stupid when they shit on other people's tastes. |

Yeah, electronic and classical music have alot of similarities at times. Trying to compose a classical piece would be hard I imagine. |
hm yes it is quite amazing that franz Haydn was able to create over 105 symphonies, not including his other works

Techno, Trance, Hard-Trance, House, Hard-House, Hardcore, Happy-hardcore, Dance, Garage, Speed-garage, Drum and bass, Jungle, Ambient to name but a few are all genres of an era that has progressed from early 80s to the present day.
You will rarely know which is truly which unless you spend some time listening to underground origins of the music. Picking up a CD from a shop with "Dance" or "Techno" written on doesn't guarantee you have the real stuff. Most compilation CDs are mainstream and won't be genre specific, no matter what it says on the case. Note, I said most. I've never enjoyed Techno. I would never say it takes no talent to create, however, because I could not be a critic of work I don't enjoy. I enjoy Hard House, Trance and some Drum-and-Bass. When I'm spannered off my head in a club I tend to enjoy Hard House the most. When I'm relaxing at home or map-making I like to kick back to Digitally Imported online Trance radio. Any other time I will listen to Supergrass, some Oasis (older stuff and the tracks with Noel on vocals), Blur, Green Day, Nirvana, Sting, REM, The Verve, Dido, Seal, Eva Cassidy, Prodigy, Queen and many more acts. As you might see I am a fan of music, not one particular genre. To say any single style of music takes no skill to create and perform shows a lack of appreciation. If I like the sound of a track, I will listen to it. Simple as that. |
I don't know what the hell genre this fits into, but i'd definately recommend "Propellorheads - On Her Majesty's Secret Service". It's a remix of an Old James Bond song, but it r0x0rz, esp. for driving biggrin:

Fantastic ANALysis there, but really, who gives a shit ? It's just electronic noise. Big deal.
Tripper, I never said there was no skill involved did I ? I said no talent and structure. Maybe saying no talent was a bit over the top, but when I listen to music, I like structure, I like a clearly defined theme and lyrics to match. We are on both different sides of the musical field though, so we could never agree on anything musically as far as taste goes. I retract my statement about no talent, in my younger years I was in that crowd, hip hop, rap, techno....whatever, I knew DJ's, I skated with them, and they did have talent. But when I go see bands that I like playing, which is rare these days, those guys have more energy and conviction than any DJ can muster up and definately have more musical talent. But anyway, respect to them, they gotta do what they gotta do to get by in life. |
DJ Bobo - There is a Party
Good shit. |

Whatever floats yer boat. I don't like it, but it doesn't mean trance music is crap.
Agreed on the naming of the genres, pest. That's just fucking stupid. Call it "ooga-booga" music and be done with it, for chrissakes. |
I was really trying to put that point forward, actually, but I didn't state it in a sentance.
They are all separate styles and genres, just like Rock music is split up into its own various styles. You can call Metallica, Nirvana, Green Day and Oasis all rock bands but do they all play the same type of music? Of course they don't. Same thing, different scenes. What I was trying to say is that despite all this segregation in music, for those who truly just like music it doesn't matter. Those who feel they wish to pigeon-hole themselves into one category only limit themselves, in my opinion. But, I don't see what's so wrong with being pationate about Techno to such a degree that you feel the need to say that any generic Dance track is not Techno. I am certain if you told a Green Day fan that they listened to a rock band they would be quick to point out that they are, in fact, a punk band. Nothing wrong with that. [/fence-sitting] |
Er passionate... [/edit]
