alienware

thinking of getting the area 51 (black w/ red light) but is is good for the price?? i am a freshie in highschool but it might be a "family thing"

http://www.alienware.com/System_Pages/area-51.aspx

also, is the radeon 9800 pro any good? (probably a stupid question)

JBird 05-07-2003 12:04 AM

your a freshman in highschool, you dont deserve to have such a killer rig oOo: id say its overpriced, you can build a pc with those specs for around 12-1400 $

the funny thing is, the dell i bought in 2001 (before i knew about computers hake: ) was 2150$ ...and the specs on that were half of what that is ...1.5ghz p4 256 rd ram geforce 2 mmx 32mb lol.... cry:

Slinky2397 05-07-2003 07:19 AM

That's because that was the best at that time.

I can't comment on the priceage, because I don't know what the 3 GHz goes for or anything like that. I would rather build mine, like mine is now, 1.7Ghz, Gf4 Ti4200 128MB, 512 RAM, and other stuff, probably all around $600.

good god man that's an ugly case!

unless your house in an Invid or Chig base I suggest building your own, with a more Terran looking case biggrin:

Zoner 05-07-2003 09:06 AM

I blame all this computer modding on Vin Diesel. First cars, now computers.

Jeezus, I hate Vin Diesel. mwah:

LoneGunner87 05-07-2003 09:21 AM

I think Vin deasel is a poser kind of XXX was kinda of fake and stupid. The only good movie he was in was SPR. I dont think a freshmeat could handle an are 51 alienware computer. eek:

Bazooka_Joe 05-07-2003 10:03 AM

2100 and no monitor? Hrm. . .dunno man. It seems a little steep for me. I could build that with water-cooling for the same price.

HobbitUK 05-07-2003 10:10 AM

you'll probably paying alot more just coz it looks good... i say just buy a boring gray box... performs the same, yet is cheaper..

Gonzo 05-07-2003 02:03 PM

alienware's are a rip off

MrLevinstein 05-07-2003 02:45 PM

Just build one, for that price they should give you a monitor at least and a printer... Just like a Cadillac your only paying that much for the label

I wish he didnt die so early in SPR, thatd be cool, at the end, he would race the German's in their ricer Kubelwagons biggrin:

You're a freshman in high school, so obviously you need this: [url=http://www.alienware.com/system_pages/area-51m.aspx:76c04]CLICK ON ME NOW!!! M16:[/url:76c04]

High School Freshmen and Softmores and Juniors need notebooks since the number of provided computers in many high schools is not as sufficient as they were in the computer lounge in the PC store. You may need some organizing to do once you're in High school. That's why you need a notebook PC with high power. Unfortunately, I have to say: Alienware sells products specifically retrofitted for computer gaming, so you will have little use for this in school, but oh what the fuck, get it. It rocks.

Of course, HOME computers are so much more convinient and more powerful than the average laptop. oOo:

Don't waste your money(or your family's) on an Alienware computer, they're nice, no doubt, but you're paying $2000.00+ for a rig you can build yourself, as someone stated, plus the experience couldn't hurt. All you are really paying for is the name ALIENWARE.

Slinky2397 05-07-2003 08:08 PM

Yeah, really. It doesn't even come with speakers. Plus, you could probably up the ante on some of those specs if you build it yourself, and still be under that price. I'd suggest a barebones with a nice mobo/processor then finish the job off, would be much, much cheaper than that, as we've all said.

05-07-2003 08:11 PM

now ricer just doesnt mean an ugly car, it can mean an ugly computer. Does anyone need these "upgrades"? Do they do the computer anygood? I spend money on upgrades that do something, not just pretty up my tower. I'd rather have a computer in bright pink with words "IM GAY, I LOVE TEH C0K!!!!!!" written all over it, with the best stuff in it, then another computer like an Alienware, cooler design, everything, but it's 1 GB short of the gay one in Harddrive. Its all about performance baby. Its not how it looks on the outside, its how it acts on the inside

Slinky2397 05-07-2003 08:14 PM

Wow, somewhat intelligent. That's what I say, all this fancy shit is just a waste of money, and in my mind if it was a LAN party, I'd say the person with a comp. like that is just a sad excuse of a hardcore gamer. It's much more fun and self-fullfilling to assemble your own, because when you fire it up, it's like, damn! Well, I sound crazy so I'm going to go wack off...

101stSpeirs 05-08-2003 05:57 PM

lol, i have ADD too, first thing you have to choose is Intel or AMD

101stSpeirs 05-08-2003 10:41 PM

is it just personal preference or is one better than the other?? I guess Intel, but if there is a reason i should choose AMD, then i am all ears

Old Reliable 05-08-2003 11:01 PM

http://www.newegg.com

http://www.pricewatch.com

good sites for prices

i would suggest the 2.4 pentium processor. it is probably the best buy for the power. I own it and find no problems with it. video card...refer to other threads using the search function

101stSpeirs 05-08-2003 11:25 PM

yeah, for the video card i was just thinking a gr force 4 ti 4600 128 mg, my a+ teacher can get me one for $149.

what about this:
