the D-boys' pro-tec helmets

When i did my first skydive, they had trouble finding a helemt that would fit me properly, so when i go for my second jump, i intend on having a well-fitting helmet for my head. Anyways, those black protec helmets the D-Boys wear in Black Hawk Down look pretty snazzy and i would like to get one like that one.

Question: does anyone know the exact make and model of the helmets used in the film BHD? Or at least give me an approximation as to what u think it might be. My guess is that it's this one: [url:8a73d]http://www.pro-tec.net/skate/largepix/Classic%20Skate%20gun%20metal%20trans.GIF[/url:8a73d]

Thats the gun-metal grey classic freestyle skate helmet. Do u think West 49 would carry that?

"can u almost make it?" is another seinfeld quip. We wear them to protect from in-air collisions with other jumpers, and to protect from a hard landing where you might bang your head into a wall or something

ninty 05-26-2003 10:33 PM

Yeah, I don't think a helmet is going to help much when your falling at 120MPH.

I don't understand your question, what's West 49?

It's off an Airsoft website...But it's the helmet you're looking for, I believe.

I've got a helmet like that, diffrent brand, but it looks exactly like that, and it was half the price of the Pro Tec helmets. I got mine at Sportmart, check there.

Innoxx 05-26-2003 11:38 PM

Gawd, wouldn't it be cheap to get a hockey helmet?

Okay, just checked mine, it's by Louis Garneau, it's called "The Street", and it looks EXACTLY like the Delta Pro Tecs

ninty 05-26-2003 11:49 PM

West 49 is a skateboard company in "Western" Canada, north of the 49th parallel. Thus the name West 49, and people outside of Western Canada will not know what your talking about.

con Brio 05-27-2003 09:48 AM

the helmet should have their ears exposed

redhawk_six 05-27-2003 01:11 PM
the helmet should have their ears exposed[/quote:fa314]

That would be the one I suggested, it's about $30 cheaper than the pro tec, and it's exactly the same as the ones worn by Delta in BHD.

No, it's Pro Tec, and just a note, the gear worn by the delta boys in BHD is not the gear the real delta guys wore in Somolia, they acctully wore full cut pro tecs, and Ranger body armour, not the half-cut pro tecs and SEAL body armour that they wear in the movie.

Don't the D-boys use a kevlar shell instead of plastic?

theres a West 49 store in our mall...lol i'm outide of western caNADA

don't be so niave

ninty 05-27-2003 10:15 PM

Are you sure?

I would highly doubt they would go into combat without a kevlar helmet. The helmet I was issued is Kevlar. Before that they were steel an didn't stop bullets. The kevlar ones are "bulet resistent".

fine, it started in western canada. I didn't think any of you guys out there would buy something that is from here.

I'm not being niave, it just makes sense, no?

con Brio 05-27-2003 10:18 PM

some of em got killed by a gunshot thru the helmet, that is no question... but seeing how the D-boys were cocky and liked to be all cool, they probably felt that they didnt need kevlar in thier helmets

Innoxx 05-27-2003 10:19 PM

I don't think about 5mm of kevlar would stop an AK round.

Innoxx 05-27-2003 10:23 PM

I think they do use plastic, kelvar usually doesn't reflect:

Yup, that's it, it normally costs around $50 at sportmart, I got mine on sale for $30, and the pro tecs had a regular price of about $70-$80.

con Brio 05-28-2003 11:26 PM

redhawk, what do u use the helmet for?

redhawk_six 05-28-2003 11:30 PM
redhawk, what do u use the helmet for?[/quote:595c8]

I just use it for bike riding.

Bazooka_Joe 05-29-2003 07:40 AM

Kevlar helmets can stop shrapnel, short arms (9MM) and can be penetrated, but not entirely by 5.56mm M16 rounds. 7.62, those used in AK-47's, at a range less than 125 meters, will rip right through it.

And yes, Kevlar does reflect light. It's a shiny glossed material, which is why we camoflague ours.
