I`m in school right now and i`m doing a report on the battle of the bulge and i cant find why they named it the battle of the bulge can someone please help me! PLEASE,lol Aka_eshelmen |
the germans made a last ditch effort to drive the allies back out of europe, and in thier offensive they created a "buldge" in the allied lines. the germans were driven back however
|
|
its really sad you dn't know what the battle of the bulge was, yet you post on the forum that deals with a WW 2 game

oOo: Feel better now? |
I read somewhere the name "bulge" was derived from the fact there was a load of tanks involved. meh.

At my school they mentioned the Battle of the Bulge in enough detail to know why they named it that. Schools are getting more and more to where they less and less time teaching and more and more time on sports, political correctness, and turning the kids into sniveling, grabasstic civilian messes just like the school board members |
The Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Offensive, was a planned "surprise" attack on the Allied forces by Hitler. He planned to strike in the middle of the defensive by creating a "bulge" in the resistance and capture key cities (Bastonge).
He failed though as the 101st Airborne Division got their before his Panzer divisions did. The well known "Aw, Nuts" response from Brigader General McAuliffe when the Nazi's demanded that they surrendered the city to them. Uhmm... well a long story short, we planned a counter offensive that split the forces to the north and south and pinched the bulge and concentrated the Axis forces in a small village where they surrendered. |
it was Hitler's last offensive attack, like the other people said it created a bulge in the line...the bulge was pushed back 45 miles... Hilter lost because he was a stupid Nazi and the allies won
|
Hitler lost because he trusted no one and had VERY little military experience. He was only a Corporal in the Great War and did not go to any military school.
|
not to mention he was a complete psychopath
|
the real reason why they lost is the german army's morale was down, no aircover (due to heavy clouds) and determined allied forces. even tho the germans where very well eqipped! as everybody said it was hitlers "last ditch" offensive to try to push the allies back.
|
Not to mention his Air Assault named the "Big Blow" where they just bombed the Allied Air Fields, but they lost many of their trained pilots and good planes.

Stryker, you also have to think about what the teachers are told to teach. My 11th grade History teacher loves WWII and Vietnam, but he couldn't mention a few battles because the Board of Education requires him to touch on so many subjects in our history in so little time. Sure, he'd most likely go through ever major battle and explain what took place... but he didn't have the time to accomplish that.
See, we take a test called the "Regents" in NY state. The History Regents has a set curriculum and my history teacher has that. So it would be useless to teach kids about "Battle of the Buldge" when they really don't need to know about it. And again, he has not allot of time to teach what "needs" to be teached. You get what I'm saying?? High School history won't go in-depth on certain battles. They'll have to wait for that in College. |

We only basically learn about European,Middle Eastern and Chinese civilizations. We talked about African and South American civilizations for a combined 2 days. They just cover whats on the regents they dont have any time for other things. |

we covered WWII in US History. I really think that that is where WWII belongs because it's the war that led to the maturation of the USA as a world player (wheras before we just stuck to our hemisphere) |

During the battle of the Bulge wasnt their a mass retreat of the German Forces when they got trpped in that bulge and the allied forces surrounded them. The only chance of escape was through that thin gap between the allied forces and resulted in a massacre of the Germans?

I believe that was the escape from the Falaise pocket in Normandy after Patton...well...Pattoned biggrin: his way across the countryside and left the Germans with Brits in their front and Patton in their rear evil: |
I had a bit of an extreme liberal for a world history teacher. she taught us everything leading up to WWII with the next chapter being the actual war. She told us that she hated war and wouldnt teach us about it. All we were required to learn was the mojor turning points of the war and then we moved on to immediately after VE and VJ day. A huge disappointment, but it didnt stop me from learning as much as I could. My dad had a bunch of books on WWII. Mostly pacific and centered around naval and air battles. I never paid much attention to the european war until MOH sparked my interest again.

Right, for fuck sake.
Someone comes here to ask a question? Answer it or don't fucking bother to reply to the thread. I didn't know what the battle of the bulge was exactly. Just like I don't know what my next door neighbour's name is. I doubt I ever will know what their name is until I ask them myself. -knock knock- Hello, I'm your next door neighbour... How are you? Nice to meet you... What's your name? Neighbour: its really sad you dn't know what my name is, yet you live in the same block of appartments as me -slam door- You fucking retards. No one knows anything until someone tells them. If everyone had the "OMG I DON'T BELIEVE YOU DON'T KNOW THAT NOOB" attitude we'd all still be swinging in fucking trees. Thanks to those who actually had the decency to reply with helpful answers. |
It's quite ignorant to ask such a quesiton when you are better off searching for it on your own and getting an even better answer. intelligence is weak with him!

hahah true. so true

It's quite ignorant when you don't even know what "ignorant" means. Lacking education or knowledge. Showing or arising from a lack of education or knowledge: an ignorant mistake. Unaware or uninformed. Nowhere in that description does it say: Lacking desire to find out things for oneself by searching online using google. This is a discussion forum. About a game that has a WWII theme. You'd hazard a fucking guess that some of the members here would know something about that war. And, as I can see quite a few good answers in this thread, I would hazard a guess that I am right. My point is that the negative replies are belligerant, pointless and self-gratifying. If you don't have anything positive to say then don't bother fucking saying it. Anything else is just spam. |
