I mean, there i was watching a preview for some movie with toby mcguire in it, and the accompanying music is from MohAA???

Akuma 06-27-2003 04:45 PM

con Brio 06-27-2003 04:46 PM

here: go to [url:06979]http://www.seabiscuitmovie.com/[/url:06979] and watch one of the trailers. listen to the entire trailer.... hear a familiar theme?

ninty 06-27-2003 04:46 PM

Aparrently Seabiscuit is supposed to be this summers huge blockbuster and break all the records.

Slaggg 06-27-2003 04:46 PM

Are you sure? I'm not going to go out and spend $11 to see a crappy ass movie to verify this, but again, are you certain of this? Could it have maybe been similar to the MOHAA theme and reminded you of it?

Ferich 06-27-2003 04:53 PM

That Seabiscuit song is by Randy Newman.

Allied Assault music is by Michael Giacchino.

Any questions?

Ok, watched all three trailers. And yes, I can see how you were reminded of the MOHAA theme. But it's not the same.

of course they're not the same, but they have an identical theme

ninty 06-27-2003 04:56 PM

What are you talking about theme?

Their both played with classical nstruments? Their both video games? Their both about war? oOo: oOo: oOo: oOo:

theme!?!?!? don't u guys know anything about music!? god....

Ferich 06-27-2003 04:57 PM

You're mixing up Theme from writing, with Theme that's with music.

Ferich 06-27-2003 04:58 PM

That was Directed to Jeff ( Ninty9 ) by the way.

Slaggg 06-27-2003 04:59 PM

And here we're discussing a music THEME.

ninty 06-27-2003 05:00 PM

so then explain theme from music to me.

How can it be different, but have the same theme?

Ferich 06-27-2003 05:00 PM

Exactly.

Music Theme is a song that is recognizable with what it was made for.

i.e.
Indiana Jones - " Indiana Jones THEME"

Ferich 06-27-2003 05:02 PM

Or ...A Subject of Musical Representation, as my Dictionary says.

con Brio 06-27-2003 05:02 PM

theme, in terms of music, is a tune that u hear.... a distinct one.....

a melody recurring so often in a musical play that it characterizes the production or one of its characters.

it's hard to expain music with only words.

ninty 06-27-2003 05:02 PM

Yes, I know what a Theme for the title track of a movie is, but if the Theme from Seabiscuit and the Theme from MOH are different, what are we discussing here?

Slaggg 06-27-2003 05:04 PM

a Theme for music isn't too different than one for the written word. Listen to some Mozart, for example. Many of his compositions will carry the same THEME throughout the piece, but tweaked, maybe to include a bit more or less of a certain instrument, more or less 'oomph' in certain spots. The main, underlying current that defines the piece is it's THEME.

Ferich 06-27-2003 05:04 PM

Both songs sound alike, but they're different.

People say David Herschfelder ( The Interview ) and Thomas Newman ( Road to Perdition ) sound alike, but it's just a style they both share. Piano with classical instruments backing it.

The two songs are in the same style, they don't have the same theme. They're alike, but not the same.

con Brio 06-27-2003 05:06 PM

now i'm lost... oOo:

leave me alone, i'm gonna go eat a donut

ninty 06-27-2003 05:07 PM

So the "main underlying current" of Seabiscuit and MOH are the same?

I don't think so. I don't think they sound alike at all.

Now we get to the point of the discussion: Style.

I do agree that the 'style' of the music for "Seabiscuit" is very similar to MOHAA's theme. And like I stated before, it does remind me of MOHAA's theme. But would I have thought that, without any prodding from our thread's starter? Probably not.

I don't think their alike at all. Only in the way the score is produced by means of instruments.

So why is this such a big deal. We could say this about anything that uses the same type of instruments, speed and whatnot. I'm sure there are hunderds of scores that somewhat fit that description.

so, How did Seabiscuit movie steal the MohAA theme?

con Brio 06-27-2003 05:13 PM

a need a music prof here...

Bucknub 06-27-2003 05:16 PM

I strongly doubt a movie company with steal a music theme from a pc game that was made long time ago when they can get there own very good music composers

Simo Häyhä 06-27-2003 05:17 PM

the movie looks stupid hake:

Ferich 06-27-2003 05:17 PM

Dreamworks was affiliated with the first few Medal of Honor games.

Slaggg 06-27-2003 05:17 PM

Brio, I get what you're saying. It sounds a lot like the MOHAA theme to you. For me, not so much. Great thing about music, and art in general, it's subjective. When you get it, you get it. And that makes it your own experience.
