old fogies home

Yep, that's not a bad place to start.
Red Cross Homeless Shelter YMCA Fire Department Big Brothers/Big Sisters |
A hospital...
Maybe you could find some sort of social event... There are a lot of things you could do, that I can't think of. |
building stuff with Habitat for Humanity (if you're skilled at building things, I doubt they'd let you volunteer if you can't drive a nail straight)
|
if you like animals im sure there are plenty of nature reserves, or lost animal pounds you could help out at.
|
Salvation Army or a soup kitchen
|
Coach a sports team. Little kids. Its easy :)
|
That last one is a great idea...works like a charm.
|
I'm sure there is a pimp out there looking for fresh meat. You just have to know where to look.
|
shhh, you'll make the thread get lox0rz

I volunteered at a camp at my church for disabled children the past 2 years, this year I get $900 for working there this month. Not bad considering it's easy and mostly fun. It also give you a better, more understanding perspective on disabled kids and what them and their families live with.

The best places are soup kitchens. The folks are generally friendly, and are interesting. I wouldn't say an old folks home because that is VERY challenging.

I worked at a Vacation Bible School for 5 years now. I was the magician and care-giver of a small group of 6 year olds. It's always a challege but it's fun in the end. Try to find maybe something that has to do with children. Someone said coaching-that's a good idea.
|
^ Ahhh, I had to go to those when I was little, I d them.... But yeah, I agree, that would be a good idea on the other end, and also, yeah coaching would be a great idea also.

hospitals are big on volunteers. I used to volunterr at one. ALso try schools, churches, go to the town hall(if you have one) and ask them if they need help.
|
I'm sure in most towns there is a center for voluunteering. mine is called the voluntary action center. it is a base for distribution for all kinnds of volunteering. check it out

Great blokes in the FD, you'll hear amazing stories and maybe get to shoot the hose. just hope it isn't fire season though oOo: |
go to a hospital and deliver newspapers to the rooms... thats what i do every sunday morning

Fire Dept.
I don't know about the area in which you live, but in my area, these guys get a lil' pension after 20yrs. Not too shabby for a "Volunteer" organization. |
Go to your local volunteer fire dept. Rather than sitting around sweeping the floors, you can actually be a part of the department. At my department we have plenty of kids. And this is a place you can make friends and it would be sometthing that you can still do after you graduate. But look into it, it could be fun.
