GALAXIES A HIT. . .

Despite bugs I guess.

Around 125,000 have already plunked down their change for this game, which included a free first month. So that's 125, 000 who get to test run the "final product". Games like these with no singleplayer play, I have to wait on, just too risky, and look what happened with The Sims.

07-08-2003 10:30 AM

ha, you have to pay to play a game. if paying for cable wasnt enough

Cpt. Obvious 07-08-2003 10:55 AM

thats gay u have to pay 50 bucks for the game and shell out 15 bucks a month to play it.

07-08-2003 12:45 PM

errrr I hate games that you have to pay to play thats why i dont play PSO stupid money hungry bastards i'll never pay to play a game only for buying the game i never rip games

V.A.C. 07-08-2003 01:17 PM

I used to play Motor City Online and EA charges $15 a month to play. I played for a few months and realized why the hell am I paying for game that cost me $60 to buy. It's just another way for them to squeeze an extra few bucks out of you.

Bane 07-08-2003 01:27 PM

You pay to play because the cost of the game itself does not cover their expenses for bandwidth and the servers.

SoLiDUS 07-08-2003 03:04 PM

Your problem for wanting to play such a crappy game! Have fun trying to
unlock a "force-sensitive" character! *chuckles*

07-09-2003 02:14 AM

crappy game you are a fool. you havent played it so you have no idea. i own the game it rocks. best grafix in any game. this is one hell of a game. ps i heard from game dealers only 50,000 were made were you get your numbers? you cant find the normal game any where. only collectors. maybe they made 50,000 of both. and you dont need a force sesitive character to have fun with this game. i am working on being a bounty hunter. blows mohaa and bf away. them games look like 80s games compared to this. so dont talk out your ass about something you have not played. your comp probly cant handle it any way. you need one hell of a comp for this game.

11 Bravo 07-09-2003 02:46 AM

Screw that, I'll stick to DoD, RavenShield, and Freelancer for now.

I think you all miss the point of MMOLRPGs. This isn't quick frag-for-an-hour gameplay it's a persistent world which needs staff to run and update contantly, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They have to be paid.

Whilst I won't be bothering with this particular MMOLRPG (or any other, ever - Wasting 2 years of my life on EQ was enough, thanks) I fully understand why they charge for the use of the game.

For less than $20 a month (how many of you miss $20 a month? If you do then you probably wouldn't be the one paying for the account anyway lol) you get full time support for bugs, administration and updates. You also get no cheaters because no one would spend money on a game if they were only going to cheat in it, to have their account deleted when they are caught cheating. Plus, whatever payment method they use would be linked to their address... Not worth the risk.

Compare that to MoH:AA.

No support, riddled with cheaters, tons of bugs and finite gameplay.

It's two completely different styles of game, both of which have merits and disadvantages.

MMOLRPGs are totally involving games. They are an experience unlike FPS games and, providing you are into the theme of the game, they are well worth paying the money for.

So long as the content is quality they are a class apart from ordinary free online games.

Running a MOH server, even when split many ways, costs more. If the game is good, then it is worth it. Problem is, the pay per month still turns me off, especially for a $50 game with no single player. Hell, just paying for a game turns me off. I can 100% fully undrestand why people wouldnt want to buy into the concept, and not even whatever's eloquent arguement can persuade me.

sounds boring, they don't even have the ability to travel to other planets so you're liable to get stuck on some rock like Tatooine as a moisture farmer or something oOo:

[quote:f412d]It's only been one week since the release of STAR WARS GALAXIES: AN EMPIRE DIVIDED, the massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment, but it's already proved to be a big hit. According to sales figures, over 125,000 people plunked down their cash and picked up a copy of the PC game last week, and the only way they're interacting with the STAR WARS universe is online.[/quote:f412d]

Math according to Founding_Law. Welcome back son.

And I'll get this game a year later, when it at least has had some support and updates (which looking at the main page it already have), and when its priced to own.

And anyone going in there thinking their gonna be a Jedi is SERIOUSLY smoking.

Zoner 07-09-2003 09:48 AM

The only guy who'll achieve jedi status in this game is this guy: http://www.jedimaster.net

biggrin:

That's him! Ph33r the Jedi Mastah!

Man, the videos on that site kill me. SWK 2.0 and Episode III are gold.

another person with no idea what they are talking about. there is this thing called a space port, you go there buy a ticket and choose a planet.

and ed where did you get that quote from. i am just saying that where i bought the game the dealer said only 50,000 were made. but i did put apost at the star wars galaxies forum and asked so ill see what they say.

07-09-2003 11:17 AM

ok i guess it was 50,000 for the 1st release so servers could handle it.

Sergeant John W Martin 07-09-2003 11:19 AM

Is this game out in the UK?

07-09-2003 11:20 AM

[quote:160bc]Is this game out in the UK?

i think it is for north america only.

BloodBorn 07-09-2003 01:54 PM

umm.....why would it be for North Americans only?

If you buy the game through an online store then you should be able to play on the servers oOo:

Might get a bit laggy at times but you should be able to play it none the less.

Also would like to add something about cheaters/exploters....yes, most MMORPG's don't have these but some do (ala Shadowbane) and it can get really out of hand if the developers didn't do a good job at fixing all the "minor" problems.

And i'd have to go with Ed on this....wait another year til most of the Origianl features are implemented and most annoying bugs are out of the way.

When it comes to graphics well........screw graphics when it comes to an MMORPG cause for true MMORPG gamers those are like last on the list (just ask any UO/EQ player) cause it's all about the content of the game.

Hell........Eve Online was just awsome when it came to the graphical part but it was really dull when it came to a lot of other things, so i don't really care that uber much about the shiny look of the game but more of the right feel to it.

I remember when AO came out......the graphics were just of the hook. Playerd the moter for 3 months and got bored, not much there to do and all the bugs (god that was annoying) just made it worse.

So far SW:Glalaxies is only selling well because of it's name.........so we'll have to see if it does anything good later on happy:

07-09-2003 01:58 PM

well the grafix r nice but the game play is great so there it is not just eye candy. and sorry to say it is a north america game only. so if you buy it online and dont live here you will not get on line. wait a year bye then ill be so for advanced ill be a god to you lol.

Sergeant John W Martin 07-09-2003 02:31 PM

Northa america Only! That suxs donkey balls.

not likely.....if it's North America only now then they'll most certinly put up european server when it becomes worldwide server play :P

07-09-2003 03:23 PM

I really wish that LEC would get their heads out of their asses and release Rogue Squadron 2 and 3 for PC.

Zap. USMC 07-09-2003 10:43 PM

I have SWG currently and love it. Right now it's the only game I'll play and most likely the only game I'll consider playing until Half Life 2 or Doom 3 is released.

Bazooka_Joe 07-11-2003 11:06 AM

I got it, and I think it's great. I don't play BF1942 or MOH for now, since Ive been playing this so much. It's really a good game, IMO.
