that sounds about right

CeleduX 07-21-2003 08:43 PM

Yup. One of the best movies I have ever seen.

Captain Bunny 07-21-2003 09:07 PM

Ah this old chest nut.

You either say "what the fuck?!" "That was the best war film ever" or "That was awsome but not as a good as platoon"

Mine is the latter.

Pyro 07-21-2003 09:59 PM

ya Platoon is better

Sergeant_Scrotum 07-21-2003 10:04 PM

why cant more people just make a semi normal war movies? so many are real fucked up.

Sergeant_Scrotum 07-21-2003 10:05 PM

BTW one question. how the hell did they get mail out in the middle of nowhere?

Machette 07-21-2003 10:25 PM

the guy was waiting for him, he knew that there patrol boat was heading around that area so they got the mail

11 Bravo 07-21-2003 11:32 PM

yeah, that movie was fucking nuts. I agree with you about the battle scene though. that had to be my favorite part when the Hueys came in low over the water.

Airborne Butters 07-22-2003 12:36 AM

I didn't care much for when they found Kurtz and all the talking. By then I was so hyped up on the action I wanted more like a crazed crack addict.

and by this are you implying that war is "normal"? cant you realize that they are for this very reason , being "fucked up" , too try and convey to the viewer that war is fucked up? in the thin red line that dude collected teeth out of the dead jap bodies. its there for a reason guy, just dont fast foward the "boring" f' ed up parts anymore. end of rant.

p.s. semi normal lol i cant get over it. hake:

07-22-2003 04:57 AM

Saw nothing fucked up about that movie. "charlie don't surf"

JBird 07-22-2003 05:44 AM

robert duvall was brilliant in this film, he should have recieved an oscar for that performance. my favorite line is when after that gook bitch throws the grenade into the chopper and blows it up....duvall orders an attack chopper to nail her, when he does he says "nice shot man, ill get you a case of beer for that one ...." lmao biggrin:

by normal i mean like bob or spr. in this movie though its all about how fucked up everyones minds are. it was just too far beyond for me in the last hour. & finding the playmates at the run down base & how they were just compleatly crazy. made no fucking sence to me at all.

i liked the scene when they are hiding on the river & the choppers are flying up the river sending out the message "just bring me back my surf board, i will not hurt you"

Wilko 07-22-2003 08:00 AM

I can't remember the line verbatim, but it was something like; "We always play some Wagner before we go into battle. The Boys love it, and it scares that shit outta the gooks!"

Machette 07-22-2003 08:15 AM

brilliant just brilliant

sorry, i have to correct you, duvall does not order an assault on the gook that gernades the huey, he simply says "fuckin savages" one of the door gunners of the small choppers says "im gonna get that dink bicth"

duvall says "get you a case of beer for that" when the one huey takes out the 50 cal.... if you dont believe me wacth the huey attack scene again

JBird 07-22-2003 03:57 PM

whatever roger ebert. sorry i didnt get the exact context correct.

"in scene 38 chapter 12 when played back at x8 speed , you can see one of the gooks heads blow up" f u nerd hake:

Sergeant_Scrotum 07-22-2003 05:30 PM

I think it is his time of the month. he got all pissy with me because i wanted to see more war movies not as fucked up as some.

Maj.Stoner 07-23-2003 05:38 AM

You guys should also check out Coppola's documentry shot by his wife on the making of APN Called "HEARTS OF DARKNESS"

It's based on documentary footage that Eleanor Coppola (his wife) shot at the time the film was being made.... I think the documentary is just as good as the original film itself.

Some of the footage depicts scenes of the actual real sacrifice of that water buffalo in conjunction with kurtz being taken down at the end of the film. and lots of other information that happened on set.. like, Martin Sheen's heart attack during the film.. To Coppola's "rented" Hueys from the Philippine military that had to keep being called away for use to fight the gorillas still inside parts of south east Asia, as there was still tension brewing left over from Nam.

Anyway.. Check it out, its an amazing film as well.
