Looks like it could be an OK movie. I hear there is a film about Alexander the Great in the making also. All of a sudden Ancient Greece is the vibe nowadays.

Myth or True?......[/quote:b1d2a] Helen was a daughter of Zeus: make of this what you will but I personally believe the entire thing to be mythical. http://ancienthistory.about.com/cs/troy ... oybasc.htm |

Myth or True?......[/quote:6c8dc] it actually happend, some german arhealogist found the remains of the city like 100 years ago. |
Newsflash: finding the city doesn't mean it happened or happened the way
the myth tells it did. I could very well say that I've jumped over a 400 foot fence with Jordan XVIII shoes: if you find the shoes, does it prove I did it ? |
That looked awesome. you don't see many films now a days that date back that far. Most are post renaissance.
Director did some good films: Das Boot, NeverEnding Story, In the Line of Fire, Outbreak, Air Force One, Perfect Storm. Brad Pitt can be a great actor when he wants to be, but he's got a lot of hype. |
it looks alright from here
|
Looks pretty good. biggrin:
|
Its proven that there has been i huge and long battle at the site the Archeologist (SP?) found.
Steiner was his name i guess |
thats a crap load of boats
|
2 movies im waiting for
Alexander Great and Troy. |
Who Cares?
|
Obviously all these people that posted in this thread.
And I found that there are 2 Alexander the Great films coming out. One in 2004 and another in 2005. The 2005 one was pushed back a year because then there would be 2 in the same year. The 2004 has colin ferrel oOo: as Alexander the great, and the 2005 has Leonardo DiCaprio. oOo: I think the one with Leo is more of a biography than a regular film. Release for "Alexander" with colin ferrel is Nov 5 2004. About 11 months. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0346491/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327405/ PS: the pushed back the opening of The Alamo from December to April. I read that aparently it was boring so their doing some parts over. Previews looked good, but who knows. |
Sounds good, but be a bit leery about what you read on the IMDB. Saying that the IMDB can be a TAD unreliable is like saying that Charles Manson is a TOUCH crazy.
thats a crap load of boats[/quote:347bf]
Well, there was a crap load of Greeks to transport. rock: Most scholars believe a battle at Troy did take place. The size, and length of the battle is supposedly undeterminable, and I really doubt the existence of any gods helping out as suggested by Virgil, Homer etc. This is truly a FASCINATING legend, and I'm glad someone finally decided to make a big-budget, modern, hollywood production of it. I'm sure they'll do a fine job.....BTW - I heard that Brad Pitt plays Achilles? Is this true? If so, who will be playing Odysseus, Hector, Aeneas and King Priam? |
As a classics major (study of ancient greece and rome) i can say that in regards to myth or fact, the answer is both. Henrich Schliemann found troy in the late 1800's, he was a german "archaeologist", i put that in qoutes as at that time it was not realy the science it is today. Anyway, sclhiemann used the accounts in Homer's Iliad (story of trojan war) and Odyssey (story of Greek warrior Odysseus returning from trojan war) to locate the area he thought Troy would be. He was lucky and very smart and instead of finding the city of Troy, he found 7 of them. The cities were stacked on top of each other, built up over time. He estimated that the oldest (troy 7) or maybe troy 6 to be the famed city of troy. he dug alot up and found some amazing evidence. The one downfall is that scholars now think it was more like troy 4 or 5. Meaning that Schliemann did alot of damage to the site... basically he just dug down to where he wanted to excavate and desrtoyed much of the upper layers. so yes there was a Troy, and as others mention there is deffinate evidence of wars fought there. The Greeks always warred with people, especially those across the mediterrainian sea, where Troy is located... The reasons behind the story are likely myth, although there are scholars who think that the people of Crete worshipped a goddess in statue form named Helen, and that Trojans stole the statue (likey cuz it was gold) and due to alliances among greeks, many city-states sent armies/navies to Troy to sack it, return the statue, and split the wealth...
And i am dreading the release of the Alex the great films, although they have a chance to expose some one of the most interesting stories of the ancient world to our world, i fear they will make some lame inaccurate hollywood movie, like gladiator... It looks like Troy may be accurate, and yeah Brad Pit is Achillies, hope he does a good job! |
Brad Pitt .... Achilles
Eric Bana .... Hector Orlando Bloom .... Paris Diane Kruger .... Helen Sean Bean .... Odysseus Brian Cox .... Agamemnon Peter O'Toole .... Priam Brendan Gleeson .... Menelaus Saffron Burrows .... Andromache Rose Byrne .... Briseis Julie Christie .... Thetis Garrett Hedlund .... Patroclus |
well i do believe there was an actual battle at troy. maybe even a trojan horse but I think it was for an entirely different reason other than the one involving Zeus and Helen. It may have been because of the trade waters between troy and Ithaca.

Movie looks incredible
though it could use some more boats |

I dont really have high hopes for the Alexander the great film. Partly becasue the casting is horrible. Who the hell decided to put Collin Ferral as Alexander? mad:
And look at all those actors with puny arms. They dont even resemble war hardened veterans who accompanied Alexander for 13 years. annoy: |

1) That's alot of boats.
2) Gladiator should sue for every penny they can get their hands on. 3) I guess the TV Mini-Series Helen Of Troy was SO great, we NEED to make a movie about it! Kiss my ass, I'll matinee this crap. |
looks assrapin good
Orlando Bloom rox biggrin: biggrin:[/quote:8e37d] speaking of assraping, if they want to capture the true nature of the war, they should show Achilles and Patraclus having buttsex because they did 'in real life.' |
