While the dame is, I'm sure, tasty the blue glow needs to go. Other than that good job.

RaNgeR 12-07-2003 08:29 AM

Valid Point. However, i found if i dulled the colour in that pic of Catherine Bell any more, it would look too washed-out, so i had to leave it. I'm entirely self-taught with Photoshop, so i cannae go too elaborate :P

*Sigh* Look at the orignal picture that he used (the one that buck posted) and compare it to the picture in the sig..
Look really close and you will notice that there is two different blue's in it, divided by a horizon..
Exactly as the orignal picture..
Hence, its not a added glow, but a poorly cut picture..

yah ur right but maybe he cut it that way to make it look like an outer glow

Magnum 12-07-2003 12:30 PM

Yeah, not an outer glow. Looks like I was wrong (gasp). Still, looks bad.

Pvt Flagg 12-07-2003 03:23 PM

hay i said im not the best at it ..but at least im willing to help someone out ..

with somthing other than rude coments

Magnum 12-07-2003 04:50 PM

That cutting isn't that terrible, it just looks bad saved as a transparent gif. For best cutting results, use the pen tool.

Hey Man,

Thanks a bunch for that, makes the v1.1 of the sig look much better! It's nice to see that some people actually still help others on this forum. Good job. Flagg -> beer: <- Wilko

Wilko 12-07-2003 08:25 PM

Here's the new one

The differences are that i used the Catherine Bell pic that Flagg graciously spent his time doing, and i also upped the colour on the pic of Gregory Peck, so he didn't look as washed out. Is this okay?
(Here's the old one for comparison)

Cpt. Obvious 12-07-2003 09:16 PM

Magnum 12-07-2003 09:38 PM

Much improved.

Pvt Flagg 12-08-2003 11:21 AM

no problem at all man ...just glad i could help out

Colonel 12-08-2003 12:28 PM

I use the magnetic lasso when croping. It does a great job of following the line of your subject. Then I zoom in and touch it up with the regular eraser.

I just go straight on with the eraser.. biggrin:

Magnum 12-08-2003 01:10 PM

Like I said before, the pen tool is the best way to do it.

Same here.

Zen 12-08-2003 01:14 PM

I am among the eraser group....

How do you use the pen , Magnum?

catalyst 12-08-2003 02:14 PM

I use the regular lasso because the magnetic lasso always does what I don't want it to do and most the time my hand will get me almost the same results

Magnum 12-08-2003 02:53 PM

Zoom in to 200-300%, then trace around the edge of whatever you want to cut with the pen tool, laying down anchor points as you go. Then, when you have the outline traced with a path, go to the paths palette (next to layers and channels), and Ctrl+click the path. This will transform it into a selection, and you can layer mask/erase/whatever. You can do basically the same thing with the polygonal lasso. The advantage of the pen is that you can adjust your selection much more easily.

Zen 12-08-2003 03:02 PM

That sounds much more tedious than the eraser. But I'll give a shot just the same , Thanks.

Magnum 12-08-2003 04:41 PM

It is tedious, but you get excellent results. Remember kids, if it's worth doing, it's worth doing well, and things worth doing well in Photoshop take time.

definatly, well said wink:

Colonel 12-08-2003 10:46 PM

When you youngsters get old and arthritis sets into your hands and your prostate swells up so that you can't sit long without taking a leak, you'll switch to the magnetic lasso. biggrin:

Magnum 12-08-2003 11:30 PM

By that time, mice will probably be obsolete.

Pvt Flagg 12-09-2003 09:14 AM

its all about the magic wand ...

just select the area you want to cut with the wand ..then fade it out
