PhotoShop Q & A.

There are several great tips and tutorials in the stickys , but I would like to see a tread with the basic " How-to " information.

For example , I know that there are keyboard sets that can alter or change an image.....ie: Ctrl + U , But I have no idea what they are. I have always used the mouse to select what I want to do to an image.

Would you guys be so good as to post either a link to the controls for this or make a short list of them?

Now Magnum showed me how to use the Pin tool , which I had never used before. Which was very useful.

And Flagg was good enough to introduce me to " Plug-Ins" , which also I had no idea existed and was very helpful.

There are a great many options in PS that I am only now learning to use. I have no problem stating the obvious , I am a noob to PS. lol.

Here are some noob questions......

Where can I get GOOD , Free plug-ins?
How do you use the Stamp tool and the Magic Wand tool?
How do you make a clear background that when saved to JPG remains clear?

Im sure I will come up with a few more , but I'll start with that. Also I may not be the only one with questions , others are welcome to post questions as well.

Thank you in advance guys , your guidance and direction have always helped me.

[quote:06bbb]How do you use the Stamp tool and the Magic Wand tool? [/quote:06bbb]

Alt+click with the stamp in the area you want to recreate.
Then move the pointer to the broken area and click to draw, kinda like with the brush.
The stamp is similar to the Healing Brush tool..
As far as i know that is..

The magic wand is a marking tool that marks the color you click on and nearby similar colors.
If you got a UK flag and click the red cross in the middle, only that cross and its nearby similar colors will be marked..

[quote:06bbb]How do you make a clear background that when saved to JPG remains clear?[/quote:06bbb]

As far as i know, you cant..
You have to save it as a Compuserve GIF in order to make it transparent.

Magnum 12-10-2003 02:26 PM

Tystnad basically covered those pretty well. If you want to learn keyboard shortcuts, check the help file or look at the menus before you click on the thing you want. Here's some common ones I use:

Ctrl+A - select all
Ctrl+D - select none
Ctrl+F - repeat last filter
Ctrl+Shift+F - fade last filter/effect
Ctrl+Shift+N - new layer
Ctrl+C - copy
Ctrl+V - paste
Ctrl+Z - undo

Tystnad 12-10-2003 02:29 PM

Think its Ctrl+E to do an inverse selection, yeah?

omicron 12-10-2003 03:09 PM

Your soo cool, zoner biggrin:

Oh and also, if you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del it does absalutely nothing, except brings up a window. I'm all out of keyboard shortcuts!

Fireal 12-10-2003 03:11 PM

omicron 12-10-2003 03:15 PM

*Sigh*.. Just shut up you..

Something i use often is Ctrl+Shft+Z to undo mulitiple steps..
And if you press and hold Shft while using the eraser, it can do straight horizontal or vertical lines..

Fireal 12-10-2003 03:19 PM

Perhaps if you were doing your job, instead of browsing forums.

Fireal 12-10-2003 03:24 PM

I cant stand people who dont work, when they should.
When i was working at a computer store.
This one guy would always play games, even when we were busy.
If i was manager i would've fired that guy on the spot.
same with school.
Pay attention, instead of space out.
We are the future of the world.

Tystnad 12-10-2003 03:24 PM

And there we go again..
Why not stick to the topic and be helpfull for once?

Dude, I'm 30. I work at a software company as a testing specialist.

Some of these tests take an hour to run. What do I do in the interim? I browse the web.

I do my job and I do it well. You have no basis for your argument, so give it a rest.

Fireal 12-10-2003 03:35 PM

Ok, I see where you are coming now.
I just really hate slackers.

Zoner 12-10-2003 03:39 PM

As do I.

As I do to! I'm not really a lazy that does nothing all day and lives night and day in his pajamas. This is the internet, I can create myself. I can be who i want to be without giving myself out. I am really a 23 year old, done with college and into computer gaming. I work at Stop and Shop and I am a co-manager. I make lots of money and I DO NOT slack off!

omicron 12-10-2003 03:51 PM

GOD DAMN! That feels good to get off my chest!

Fireal 12-10-2003 03:51 PM

co-manager at a stop and shop eh?
That must have taken years of college.
Thats not a career
Since you're not 8, you're just retarded

Some 13 year old twats that think they're funny don't always have to beleive me.

And I went to college for computer graphics. I am looking for a job in computer graphics. I have not found a good job for me, yet!

Fireal 12-10-2003 03:58 PM

That wouldnt be hard at all to find, join a site tat makes websites for people.
It can be a easy side job, and do graphics for them.

Maybe a job in the movie industry, making posters, and video covers for the movies.

Zen 12-10-2003 04:06 PM

Ok , here are a few more for you....

Tystnads sig has a weathered and scatched look to it. How did you do that?

If I wanted to make a strait line across the sig , whats the best way to do that?

How do you make your sig have a link in it , meaning clickable?

How do you Feather?

Thank You for those whom have anwsered the previous questions.
And thank You Zoner for watching this , after Guarnere and Cold get ahold of it there may be enough useful information here to warant a sticky.

Fireal 12-10-2003 04:24 PM

Hold shift for straight lines, Scratchy you have two options
Download Brushes for it
Make your own brushes.
Have a part of the image selected right click, choose feather and play around with how many pixels, ctrl-x it, ctrl-v it in the sig you're making

snipeymagoo 12-10-2003 05:31 PM

im not trying to start anything but omicron stfu please....your spamming this forum

Zen 12-10-2003 06:01 PM

Animal ,

You'll have to be a bit more specific on the strait lines , you see I have always used the mouse and am only now learning about the keyboard shortcuts.

Hold Shift to make strait lines... please elaborate on that one.

Also , Cold

I know you can anwser the clickable sig question , may make a good tutitorial for the Underdog site too.

Magnum 12-10-2003 06:02 PM

Straight lines, same as resizing a pic. Hold down shift, click and drag line where you want it, release mouse, release shift.

Whats this Hippy bullshit, coming from a army dude?

Zen 12-11-2003 01:34 AM

Whats " Hippie " about Zen Assimal?

Here , I'm just messing with you let me explain....

I recently changed my name , and when I did I made a decision. I will no longer persue the same old style I was using that everyone else had as well. ( the noobs anyway )

My goal is to learn how to use this PhotoShop very , very well. If I'm gonna succede at that I must step out of my comfort zone. I have to try things that I have never tryed before.

I decided to revolve that " new " approach around my new name.
Also , if you did not know I do not follow Christ focused religion.
I'm Buddist. ( if you are talking about the link...)

So thats the deal with the hippie shit , lol!

Fireal 12-11-2003 01:49 AM

Its the Buddha shit thats hippy
