Ok boys and girls , I want to know something.

Alot of work gets posted here and most of it is fair photoshopping.

Yet all I hear is the word cliche.

What the fuck.

The damn 10,000 WWII sigs I have seen pass through here is cliche. The damn gamming sigs are cliche. Hell even the band sigs are getting old fast.

I know this is AA. I understand that , no problem.

But what happened to the artists?

What happened to the new thinkers?

There used to be some 1337 shit going on under alot of posts.
My point to this tread is to see if any of you guys still got it.

I have been making semi-decent sigs here for about a year. And I owe almost ALL of my knowledge to those AAers that were good enough to give some guidance.

I'm not trying to critisize anyone , you guys know me better than that. But come on , what the hell happened.

I want to see what you guys got.

I want to see you take me up on my chalenge and put out some shit that will make Newt Proud , make Dave post a compliment , make Animal say " thats actually really good. "

You know this post has nothing to do with the leetweb guys.

Some of these guys are spectacular artists. But I think that they are not making the sigs that are good examples of there tallent because of of some stupid , don't want to look bad shit.

That goes for you too AM , I know you can do better.

I'm not some artist with a pencil-thin mustache, sipping absinthe while listening to Tori Amos. I'm just some hack who goofs off at work by diddling with Photoshop.

If some of you haven't noticed, this isn't the Louvre. Gaming images, war images, band images...all par for the course. So, I agree with Zen and drop the fucking elitist attitude. None of you are very good at Photoshop...myself included.

Get over yourselves.

Speak for yourself. cool: I have a job based on my Photoshop ability. Anyway, getting back on topic, I believe the innovative stuff comes in waves. That's what it does for me at least. If you look at all my stuff, you can see different phases of styles.

so my exterior grunging wasnt a new idea when it came about ?. Im pretty sure that and mixing in to the 2 colour extrapolation isnt very cliche. Guarnere does alot of work which isnt cliche but "his style. Hell even zoner has kept a distinct unique style in comparision. The trick is to dig threw all the bullshit to find the more pure shit. Yopu can't expect everyone to post up pieces of art 100% orginal. Inspiration doesnt hit me or nayone else in the ass 24/7. oOo:

Your saying this only because, your not the once God that everyone thought you were with photoshop. Considering I have only been seriously using the program for 8 months. Ive had it for a couple years now*. This is some really negative commenting . im not sayign I want to be God with it but It is going to be my career in. It is what im going to school to do. The fact that you just said this is a really big blow not only to me but to a lot of aspiring artists or as you call them Hacks*.

I'm sure you know I was half kidding (denoted by the cool: of course). Yeah, I know none of us have that kind of ability. The distinction that needs to be made is once you go there, you move beyond editing and get into realistic art which is a completely separate ability anyway. If you can't draw that guitar with a pencil, you won't be able to do it in Photoshop. The actual "Photoshopping" in that pic is relatively small though. As far as artistic ability, that guitar is awesome, but it doesn't take full advantage of the software in certain aspects. The techniques in the vast majority of sigs aren't directly comparable with those in the guitar.

I think what I'm trying to say is that we all have different techniques and strengths that take advantage of different parts of Photoshop. A good comparison might be that there are many artists who use collage as their primary technique instead of creating from scratch. That's basically what we do.

The fact is aa.com is what has inspired me to change where I want my life to go. Im no longer settling for what I used to want. Of course I have graduated from just styles of aa.com. I have been lurking around a lot of design sites learning and taking in as much as I can. Learning never stops with photoshop. The possibility's go on. What you may no the other guy doesnt and vice versa.

"Never stop learning!"

And that's they key right there..

and I agree a lot with what magnum said, except for the part, if you can't draw that guitar in real life you wouldn't be able to make it in photoshop.

exactly. Learning new tricks constantly then personalizing them to your own technique is key.

just wanted to add something, because if I edited my post above someone elses post they probably wouldn't read it.

I am only 15, and I am more in depth with photoshop than a lot of other people.. especially peers.

I will obviously admit magnum, shorthand, and zoner are all better at their style. I respect that they are superior to me with experience in age. But in good time, I will hear someone say this to me.

I agree, i may not be the best, but its going to get me places in life, ive already made money off making and coding templates for people.

i make stuff i like to look at and thats why i rarely seek approval from other people unless it has something to do with being stumped at photoshop or need an honest criticism about something that doesnt sit right with a project. i know my stuff is cliche and probably overdone but lets face it, most ideas when its come to sigmaking are either inspired by someone else's work or blatantly ripped off from someone else (im guilty like everyone else). seems like most of the sig threads i see have "please tell me this looks good" screaming from them even when that is not explicitly stated. I dont mind cliche as long as it has style because style can't be taught (unlike how to use ps)

Better responces than I thought I would get. I guess you guys see what I'm saying.

It's like this.....

In high school I was that kid that everyone would have guessed would be some kind of artist or designer.

But , I got older , had some kids and did the 9-5 thing so to speak. I have literally books of stuff I drew back in the day. Never thought I would pick it up again.

Then I get into on-line gamming. Which naturally leads me here.

As soon as I saw the sigs I was hooked. The guys here hooked me up with knowledge and tools.

Now , everything was going great until I started getting into 3D stuff. Arch guided me over to leetweb , and after seeing the art over there I got exited about what could be done.

I mean I always figured I could never do the kind of things Guarnere can do. And Flagg has remained a persistant influence , and huge help also.

But I have talked to enough people to know that it can be done.

I guess you could say I have been inspired by the possibillity of an artistic career.

The point of my first post was it just pisses me off that the opertunity that I had here doesn't seem to be here anymore.
It may not be important , it may not matter anymore. And if thats the case , no big deal.

It is nice to see the responce though , thanks for showing that it still matters.

arch and a few others are the only REAL good sig makers on leetweb, the rest are just 3d renders you can make in less than 5 minutes with some overlay layers, and I have run out of ideas for sigs, I have been thinking of different styles.... oOo:

Just a quick tip, when you're working on 3d objects in photoshop, learn how to use lighting.

Make sure on every part of the object the light looks like it's coming from the same spot, and screw those 3d renderers! rock:

I know it's much easier said than done, but still, keep that in mind.

Because i would like to know the opinions of others on it, i only post what I like.

Without criticism, why bother having a signature?!

Maybe to show something that you like, like a t-shirt, but if you don't want criticism, don't post the picture. I think that other people's opinions matter, that's how I learned to get better.
