Law Enforcement?
 

I've been thinking long and hard on what I want to be and I think I've decided that I want to be a cop. Anyone here a cop? I'm not at all sure the requirments to being one or college degree or what have you... Any input would be lovely

most cops are built on ego trips. They abuse their power in some cases...but i don't think that is avoidable.

I have a second cousin who is a Staff Sergeant in the Royal Candian Mounted Police. I have a neighbour who is in the Calgary Police Force, my brother also wants to Join the CPS.

So to answer your question, no i'm not a cop and I don't really have any information. I know that both my cousin and neighbour love their jobs.

I really want to do something diffrent then doing a 9-5 job in a cubicle dealing with retards all day. If I'm a cop I get to hassle and possibly arrest the retards biggrin:

Seriously though I just want to do something diffrent then the old grind.

my good friends becoming a cop, he graduated 03 and we were in rotc together....he did this thing called "police explorers" where he got to do all this police stuff that was sponsered by the sheriffs office. Now that hes in college the criminal justice department of his school (which hes majoring in) has all these police internships that he does now. He really seems to enjoy it, he made a webpage about it.

if you have any brain power, you might get ticked off by being with retards all day. By retards i mean the cops...not the criminals. The cops around my area are soooo retarded and stupid. They're dumb as bricks and yet they feel like they're the supreme beings of the Earth stupid: . Maybe you might not want to stay as a regular police officer. Do some research about the different fields of law enforcement. Think about the FBI? I'll tell you one thing is for sure, FBI officers > local township officers (these are generalizations of course. There are probably a shitload of people that could disprove my thesis there...)

Nothing wrong with law enforcement... thats one of my options later on. You get great pay, benefits and retirement.

Most cops are very good, you would be hard pressed to put up with what they have to do. I am planing on becoming a Game Warden right now. It takes about foru years of college, and alot of places like for you to get a degree in wildlife, and not really so much in law enforcement. Hopefully I would be a Federal Game Warden as the pay is much better, but I will take what I can get. I like people, and this is the kinda job where I could help them, and that is something I would love to do. First though I may go into the Security Forces in the USAF.

I seen cops play bumper cars with their Black n whites biggrin: There is one cool benefit, actually 2 cool benefits that i can think of, 1 is you can speed and if they pull you over you just show em your badge and they won't ticket you. Another is you can get free food and major discounts on stuff. Oh and you can beat up crack heads and hippies.

I found that site most helpfull in my questions. Stuff was basic and to the point. I'm checking out some classes about the classes now.

no I wouldn't be corrupt. My reasoning for being a cop is that I just don't want to do that life grind of 9-5 cubicle. If I become a cop I'd be out on the streets, learning the world, being in shape, and hopefully stopping crime in a way. I'm not doing the idolistic dream of 'I'm gonna stop all the crime and make a diffrence, blah blah'. Everyday you see that prick who runs a red light, or side swipes someone then runs,etc... Just trying to do my part really. Sounds corny I know

Depending on where you want to go, a college diploma would just be an
asset (a plus): some places are desperate for officers. You need one if
your dream is to be a policeman here in Quebec but Ontario and the rest
of Canada don't force you to have one: if you pass the interview and the
aptitude test, you're in.

That's the reason I initially chose to study Police Foundation (that and not
having studied for good grades in high school - let this be a lesson to you)
but when I learned that SWAT required a 7-year service record to even be
ELIGIBLE, I dropped: I could train with JTF-2 within 4 years of joining the
army and I'd see more action. Ultimately, I chose computers...

work with city of Atlanta police departemnt--busiest department in the nation (per unit).
