The Giver

My bro brought home this book as a summer reading assignment. I remember reading it like 3 years ago. It was one of the few books that I can say was a very good book. Anyone besides me read it?

what grade are you in? because there are a lot of books you read in school that are pretty good in the years to come.

Bean 2 06-25-2004 01:53 PM

Yea read a long time ago. Wasnt it about a perfect society and everything was in black and white or some shit and people were assigned their occupations. My favorite book is the Phantom Toll Booth though.

Trunks 06-25-2004 02:08 PM

The Giver was the worst book I have ever read.

Lowis Lowry makes shitty books.

ninty 06-25-2004 05:23 PM

I read it in like grade 7, which would be 10 years ago. I think it was good, but I can't really remember.

HeadUp 06-25-2004 05:47 PM

omfg the giver

6th grade, all the gay projects we had to do for that book
i hate bullshit abstract writing too where you cant tell anything about the setting

best school-assigned book ive ever read- ender's game, Orson Scott Card (also one of my fav books ever)

worst school-assigned book- dead tie between To kill a mockingbird and fuckin Nectar in a Sieve

TonyMontana 06-25-2004 06:09 PM

imported_Grim_Reaper 06-25-2004 06:10 PM

Conscript 06-25-2004 06:12 PM

The Brethren by John Grisham

Tystnad 06-25-2004 06:17 PM

I loved that book. Actually, i saw the movie when i was like 7.
Couldnt get proper sleep for weeks afterwards.. oOo:

I also enjoyed 'A Hitchhikers Guide To the Galaxy' by Douglas Adams.
Long as shit, just as confusing, but it tied it all up really well in the end.

[DAS REICH] Blitz 06-25-2004 06:31 PM

there is nothing worse than the book "Watership Down." Its a book about talking bunnies leaving their home and fighting against a Hitler-like bunny and have their own wars... without actual bloodshed and fighting.

9mm BeRetTa 06-25-2004 08:18 PM

read the book a few years back.

good book, gets you thinking, great plot...

...then you get to the end which is the worst ending possible. its like a cliffhanger.

Jotun 06-25-2004 08:25 PM

My favorite book is For Whom the Bell Tolls rock:
wish we read it in school, i had to do a research paper on it.

read it but i lost it in the middle.

Kraut Killer 06-25-2004 11:03 PM

I fucking hated all the books ever assigned to me in school. Since they were all books that I had no interest in, for example... why the caged bird sings and the great gatsby, and never was I allowed to pick a book for my summer reading, school ruined reading for pleasure. I didn't even think of reading for pleasure until about a year after graduating... and I still don't like it all that much. I'm not sure if I ever read, was forced to read, this one though.

The dutch had the saying were doing this to help them" As I see it your doing the exact same thing right now, your trying to force something down a people's throat and they don't want it.
