Official Doom 3 Benchmarks

http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQy

Looks like if you have less than a 9800 Pro, you're fucked.

Thank the Goddess I went with a 6800GT instead of a X800 Pro.

It's not something you can test yourself, it's just an article by [H] that shows the performance of 9800XT and up.

fujimi7su 07-22-2004 06:22 PM

sorry didnt read much

ATI still > nvidia IMO

Akuma 07-22-2004 06:26 PM

Not with the newest series. I'd recommend ATI for any card before the X800 Pro. But once you get into the $400 range, Nvidia is back with a vengence. First of all you can't buy X800XT-PEs or 6800Us anywhere so that limits you to waiting for a backordered product that hasn't been released or getting a 6800GT/X800 Pro. The 6800GT is just the all around better card.

fujimi7su 07-22-2004 06:28 PM

its a major price jump for a little performance diff IMO.. ill wait til theyre around 200

Akuma 07-22-2004 06:31 PM

Double the performance over last generation is a little performance difference?

There hasn't been a release with performance increases this big since the 9700 Pro.

very true, this is the FIRST "review" or benchmarking i've seen where the x800 xt loses to the 6800. every single other benchmarking site, or review of this card i've seen, the "conclusion" said the x800 xt pe will be better then the 6800. dont forget, you have to buy a big ass powersupply to support the 6800.

Mr.Buttocks 07-22-2004 06:33 PM

Pfffft! annoy:

I run my 6800GT past Ultra speeds on 350W PSU that came in a $20 case. Those power requirements are complete and utter bullshit.

Himmler 07-22-2004 06:35 PM

if so, i'd like to see some fps in doom when you get it

Sirus 07-22-2004 06:36 PM

Akuma, u know anything about the doom 3 multi player portion of the game

What benchmarks have you been reading? For the most part in d3d x800xt kicks the ever loving shit out of any nvidia board, even the fabled farcry patch with shadermodel 3.0 support which was supposed to give nvidia an advantage in terms of framerate still has ati out on top. Nvidia is a little faster in opengl, but ati is rewriting their opengl driver so expect performance boost there as well.

Akuma 07-22-2004 06:38 PM

I've heard that there is only going to be 4 person death match... Until the modders get their hands on it.

I know the X800XT-PE is the fastest card on the planet. Why do you think I was asking where you got it from?

The only problem is that you can't buy it.

Himmler 07-22-2004 06:41 PM

i get mine august 3rd..how can you not buy it? rolleyes:

pretty damn good gaming PC, i would take over a higher perf one any day[/url:3d9d1]

Sirus 07-22-2004 06:44 PM

Im still looking forward to the game none the less, I just think they should of put more effort into the multiplayer as well

Akuma 07-22-2004 06:44 PM

We'll see if you actually get it. All of the sites that allow preorders keep delaying it. They were supposed to ship in June... but we all saw how reliable ATI and Nvidia have been at getting their high end cards out. rolleyes:

fujimi7su 07-22-2004 07:11 PM

people actually have these... at least people who arent poor and stupid.

SoLiDUS 07-22-2004 07:27 PM

Fucking timedemos. Now I'm wondering what kind of performance I'll get...
*points finger and shakes it at 9800 Pro* You'd better work well.

Akuma 07-22-2004 07:47 PM

Bah... I just found out those numbers are from id, not HardOCP.

Take them with a grain of salt.

im by far not poor but i am in no way going to spend 400$ for a "top of the line" video card

Machette 07-22-2004 08:05 PM

When gerv gets his 6800 ultra hes gonna decide between to the ultra and the x800 and sell the he doesnt like...friendly prices of course.

If anything id say numbers coming from iD are more representative of an unbiased opinion especially considering reps from ATi and nvidia were present. Harcocp in the past has been accused of bias to one company or another and sometimes there has been proof, one time a benchmark score was changed and kyle denied it was changed despite evidence from about 50 forum members to the contrary, of course they ended up getting banned for it.

annoy: annoy:

and what do you mean burn it out? Unless you see hundreds of artifacts and do nothing, but game on it anyway for a week, theres no way his video card will burn out.

if your saying the PSU, who cares?? i have like 10 generic ones from old cases in my closet.
