Guitar Players Need to Hear This.

This is my best friend Matt, i recorded this with my laptop, just put it next to his amp. The voices you hear for the first few secs and in the middle of the first one are mine and my bro's. These are simply amazing. Keep in mind this kid is 16 years old and he's only been playing for 2 years.

This is him improvising.

I asked him to play Dream Theater- Under a Glass Moon, this is the solo part. He messes up once, but its still awesome. He ended with this cool Pac Man sounding lick, but it was cut off at 1 min.

you need recording equipment, bad....

how old are you and your brother?? trying to match w/ voices...

anyways, playing's pretty good for that age, be nice to get some self-written songs... or even a band... if you got it laying around id like to hear.

it was just a spur of the moment thing, i was just like "play something, lets see if this mic works"

Im the one with the deeper voice, the higher voice is my bro. im the one that goes "SHUUT UP" and "alright lets see if this works"

Sweet. He's coming along great.

Have Matt listen to this. It's the instrumental we have on our demo. Recording quality isn't the best, but it definately has some insane guitar shit. If your friend knows his stuff, he will recognize the harmonies and etc.

Especially listen to the solo thrown in starting at about 2:58. That's my friend James....he's insane. Had a guitar in his hands since he was four. He wrote most of this whole thing, but our other guitar player plays most of the solos.

good song, like you said recordings probably the worst of any on that demo, double bass comes through kind of like popping popcorn... but not bad for "garage" by 15-17 YOs rock: rock:

The second one was a recorded Dream Theater solo.

And guitarists with experience know their scales and can play right through 'em...sending in neat little licks and turnarounds. That's the foundation of a solo, playing a scale with style.

But you're right. That kid has some serious shredding ability, obviously cares about his music and his ability to improve. That's what makes a kick ass musician. Rock on, man rock: .

scales are the basis for most music, the first thing you should learn on any insturment IMO

that's amazing. I've been playing for a year and a half, just trying to teach myself. I played acoustic rythom stuff for the first 8 months or so, but I got tired of it, so I started learning scales. Virtually Everything that I know I thought myself by way of "Guitar For Dummies". Actually, a really good book. Lots of good info, especially about maintinence (changing strings, inotation, ect...)

If I were to play something that good, I think I'd shit my pants.

that was my first book

dude trust me, if you wanna really learn to shred-- take some lessons i promise youll not regret it

Coleman 08-01-2004 11:06 AM

The thing i hate the most is a stupid guitar player that can't read music (now you'll give me all the pros that can't read and you'll get all defensive about it). If you can't read music, you should go kill yourself or go and learn--choose.

I really hate the kids that don't even know how to play a C# on their guitar...they just go, "uh...I don't know what that is. All I know is 3rd string 5th fret" rolleyes:

KTOG 08-01-2004 01:16 PM

The hardest part is site playing with the guitar. There are so many possibilities with the guitar that makes site reading extremely hard. I guess schools can be to blame for making music education more exclusive towards band kids than the average joe guitar player. We didn't get a music education class at my school until my last year of HS. I took it and it was the weirdest mix of people (band kids, punkers, goths) yet we all learned a lot from this class.

PS: I can play C# AND Db !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111

ahah, gg enharmonics

I guess I'm thinking from with bias here. My public highschool is ranked in the top 50 schools in the country for music. We have classes that guitar players are allowed in. Our courses consist of: Music theory I, Music Theory II, AP Music Theory, Jazz Improv I, Jazz Improv II, Jazz Improv III, Piano Labs I, II, and III, concert band, string orchestra, chorus, jazz choral, and alot of other programs after school like jazz band. In all of those courses, there is atleast 1 guitar player. They really like the jazz improv courses and the music theory due to the fact they can write music after 1 year.

I hate that too coleman... if you wanna learn to play music, you gotta know music....

I play trumpet... have for a lil over 6 years now BTW. I never learned much guitar, even though i could get free jazz fusion lessons from school biggrin: our school has a good concert band, but our marching has fallen off lately.. but no one has cared, cause it's gay.

oh damn.. this reminds me... i have to practice, i havent played in 4ever...
