Article on doom 3 being leaked.
[quote:1f9d2]Widely downloaded
Doom 3 is the second follow-up to the 1993 first-person shooting classic. Developing a game like it can cost game developers like id Software in the region of $15m (£8.3m) to $20m (£11.1m). Its release is the gaming equivalent of the third film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In the US, the game is expected to retail for $54.99 and is expected to sell in the millions. Some US stores are planning to officially start selling the game on Tuesday, but copies are reported to have appeared in a few shops over the weekend. Potential sales could be hit by the extent of online piracy of the game. The original Doom was a ground-breaking game Copies of it appeared on newsgroups and peer-to-peer networks over the weekend. At one point on Sunday, more than 50,000 copies of the game, which weighs in at more than 1.5 gigabytes, were being downloaded. Translated in lost sales, this amounts to $2.7m (£1.5m), if all these people instead bought the game. "Despite the relatively low price of PC games, many gamers are still choosing to resort to piracy rather than pay for legitimate boxed copies," said Matt Pierce, publisher of the computer games magazine, PC Gamer. "Since Doom 3 is one of the most eagerly awaited PC games ever, it was almost inevitable that it was going to be leaked online following its US release. "Whereas in the case of Doom 3, it almost certainly won't prevent the game being a massive seller, it will still cost both the publishers and developers of the game millions of dollars in lost revenue, an outcome that can only serve to harm future game development on the PC," he told BBC News Online. At the time of publication, no one was available to comment from the game's publishers, Activision. Well, for the on average computer games sell at roughly forty dollars* (US), where as console game regularly sell for at least ten bucks more. So, relatively... PC games are cheaper. HOWEVER, there's always a however, Doom3 is being priced at fifteen to twenty dollars more than your average PC game... so he can't say anything.
*Just check ebgames.com, and you can see the average PC game price is 39.99, excluding most if not all high profile games. |
God damn 60 bucks im waiting till the price comes down then to get it, I would download it but damn im on a dial up
|
I can think of many things to spend a days pay on than a video game. I think the video game industry shot itself in the foot like the music industy & the movie industry. making prices just so high that people are not willing to spend that much money.
|
that guy is an asshole
|
id rather spend that 60 bucks on a bottle of no2, game designers should do it for the love of it not for huge profits....oh no they lost a few million bucks there all still making enough to make 100,000 more a year.
|
if i had a choice to spend 60 dollars on
1 dollar jr bacon cheese burgers or doom 3 i would get 60, 1 dollar jr bacon cheeseburgers |
i personally dont see the problem in spending $50-60 on a video game. that much is about a days worth of work for me, and when i do that 30 times a month, thats almost nothing for me. considering they did spend probably mroe then $15 MILLION dollars to develop this game, you'd think that you guys wouldnt complain about 60 bucks and just buy the damn game. the only reason i would download it is if i wanted it early, then when it came out i would go out and buy it.

wtf they are just capitalist pigs hungry for your money, fuck em and pirate
|
Fuck it, they got my $60. If i like something that much, i support the developers and/or artists (music). I d/loaded "A Perfect Circle" newest album and purchased it a week later. There's something about owning an original...with the Cd sleeve and/or game manual.
|
yea im gonna get a boxed doom 3 just cause i like having it too and besides if its such a great game i think its worth it (and because i dont know how to get in of the web lol)
P.S. DOOM 3 COMES OUT AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT WOOHOO! |

I look at it this way. If you can afford to pay for broadband internet access, which is probably what the majority of the people downloading it have...then what is the big deal with just dropping a few bucks and getting it legit? Now, don't take this the wrong way.. I'm not preaching here, i've used P2P to get some things for free. But fifty or so bucks ain't that bad...I work for a living, i'll get that money back. Plus there will probably be mods out in the future so I think that will add to the value too.
|
Meh I was gonna buy it, but I dont have any income atm so fuck it im dling it

how about the ppl like me who have to shell out 500 to get a new graphics card just to be able to play games like these, you cant deny that most hardware is real overpriced....i will only pay for games im obsessed over like bia or mohpa...maybe hl2 but its the mods im really looking forward to....i pray theyll make an ss2 mod, i would BUY d3 if they made an ss2 mod |
system shock 2 mod?
|
The game reportedly has raked in more then 30 million for id. meaning they have already turned profit,
|
well, i'll just buy it when my birthday come around.
|
I dont think the game was worth 50 bucks. Granted the graphics are amazing but there was nothing inovative and the action kind of gets repetative. Still a great game in terms of graphics, sound, and overall style but definitely not worth 50.
|
its worth 50, multiplayer seems cool. more so the moh:bt

Considering it cost 15-20 million$ to make id say 50$ was a small price to pay for it. |
its worth the 50 as a benchmarking program, and fun to watch eye candy
gameplay isnt that great, but its still a must have.... |
Anything > MoH:BT
