Hmmm, never picked that up. Mind you, if I do get this, it'll be the first computer I've order piece by piece. I got rid of the network card, and threw in a gig's worth of DDR2 400mhz. Think I should keep the soundcard though?

Akuma 08-09-2004 02:25 PM

You don't want DDR2. It won't work with that motherboard. Just get some low latency PC3200. Corsair XMS or Mushkin are the best.

The sound card is good... not great. Get the Audigy2 ZS if you can. It's quite a bit better.

Whats the diff between the ATI RADEON 9800 SE 128MB and say a ATI RADEON 9800 XT 128MB or Pro?

And anyone know of a good guide for building a pc in terms of what you need and compatibility with each piece etc?

Get a good introductory PC Basics book like "PC Hardware in a Nutshell" by
O'Reilly: in the end, you can only benefit from such knowledge. I have the
PDF if you want it. Add me to your msn list and I'll send it to you...

You will need 1 IDE cable with three heads on it(for your 2 DVD players), 1 IDE cable with two heads(for the hard drive), and one floppy cable.

The IDE cables have more pins than the Floppy Cable so you can't use it with your floppy drive. Also you might want to just get 2 IDE cables wilth 3 heads incase you add another hard drive later.

If your hard drive is SATA you won't need a rounded cable at all because the stock SATA cables are tiny.

But you don't need rounded cables for that. Regular IDE are fine.
