Read reviews, the 6800GT is almost better then X800XT and costs like ~150 less..Normaly im a ATI man,but i gotta admit when nvidia takes a win |
Bah new G-force just the flavor of the month
|
The 480 watt psu was a estimate by nvidia, seen people with 350 watt psu's running a 6800 ultra with no problems.
|
its not that i cant afford a new powersupply, im not about to rip apart my new pc in order to get one. and with all the benchmarking i've seen, the ultra extreme pulls out ahead of the x800 xt in almost every testing except a few, such as far cry.

considering quite a few games in the future will use the doom 3 engine, and obviously nvidia does better, thats why i want the nvidia. but im still not sure.
|
The D3 engine is fluff though. I bet more games will base their engine more along the Source's principles. ATI can really pull it through HL2.
|
oOo: most games will use the half life 2 engine - supported by ati

Well source is really valves first engine since the socalled "halflife" engine of the original game was nothing more than the quake 1 engine with a code rewrite. iD are well tested in the engine department and loads of games used the quake 3 engine, I would imagine doom3 would be another engine that a lot of developers will use. |

gerard go on irc i want to talk to you

6800 is a nice card, if you got the $$$
im normally an ATI fanboy but the x800xt is too pricey at the moment WTF dont you have a 9800pro??? wtf? save your cash for when you actually need a new card. |
Well, i'm sceptical about the new cards from Nvidia. My buddy went from an ATI 9800 pro to the Nvidia 6800 GT. He said the Nvidia card sucked and only gained a few fps in DOOM 3. He took the card back and the guy in the store said the same thing....that people were returning the 6800 GT in favor of the X800 Pro. I guess thats why he had (5) 6800 GT's in stock vs no X800 Pro's in stock.

Also depends a lot on clearing out the old gfx drivers etc. Most will just run driver clean but imo if you switch from nvidia to ati or vice versa you're better doing a format.
|
He's got a nice up to date system and he did a reformat when he installed the Nvidia card.Believe me, this guy knows what he's doing with a PC. He also thinks it's a driver issue.
|
i think im just going to stick with my x800 xt when it arrivees dance:
