Newegg.com ?

Why are the prices there go up so much,a AMD processor last week was 319.00 today is 450.00 ???

geRV 08-22-2004 11:55 AM

Depends on the cpu, some uk online stores raised the prices of the amd 64 by £20 or so but nowhere near what newegg have done.

Pyro 08-22-2004 12:11 PM

that's cuz AMD sucks.

fujimi7su 08-22-2004 12:15 PM

IDK, but pyro stfu the amd 64s are way better than the intel ones....

dont get a 64 yet, get a nice 32 and wait for the 64s to get better, and cheaper... right now theres really no point to them. (unless you wanna spend a ton of $$ and have "top of the line")

Your a fucking idiot

fujimi7su 08-22-2004 12:24 PM

you can get a 2500+, turn it into a 3200+ and wait a few months until the prices drop insanely on 64s and they become "standard" and get the chip you wanted

youll have saved a good hundred or so dollars at least

The XPs and the A64s dont run the same socket. If you want to get a decent motherboard you have to shell out like 70$ more. And the prices arent going to drop down to 50$ for a proc again..AMD is whoring out for more cash just like intel was doing.Your hardly saving anything/buying older parts for retail prices/wasting time building the system.

fujimi7su 08-22-2004 12:30 PM

wasting time?

i can build a pc in like 5 minutes

anyways, im off to the fair... i love j000 guys

Conscript 08-22-2004 12:44 PM

wow you can pick one point thats slightly shakey rolleyes: You still wasted 10 minutes building two systems (even though your times are bullshit,it takes like 10 minutes for the format alone)

ninty 08-22-2004 01:14 PM

I'm going to wait a month or two, perhaps for the new 939 mobo which I don't think I can get right now.

As of right now, this is what i've configured. As I said, this wil probably change to a 939 and a higher 64 bit amd.

Processor : AMD Athlon 64 3200+ w/ 512K Cache (Retail Box ) 1 $299.95
CPU Heatsink / Fan : Zalman CNPS7000-Cu Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler for P4, Athlon64 1 $49.95
Thermal Compound : Arctic Silver Arctic Silver 5 High Density Silver Thermal Compound, 3.5g 1 $9.99
Motherboards : Asus K8V SE Deluxe w/ Audio, Gigabit Lan, 1394, Dual SATA RAID 1 $174.95
Memory : Kingston HyperX 1GB PC3200 Dual Channel DDR Kit (2 x 512MB - Limited Quantities!!!) 1 $439.95
Case : RaidMax Scorpio 868 (Black) w/ 420W Power Supply 1 $89.95
Power Supplies : Included with Case 1 $0.00
Floppy Drives : Panasonic 1.44MB Floppy Drive, Black 1 $24.95
Hard Drives 1 : Maxtor 160GB DiamondMax Plus 9 7200RPM ATA133 8MB Cache 1 $159.95
Optical Drive 1 : LiteOn 8x8 DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive, Black (Retail) 1 $129.95
Video Cards : Sapphire Radeon X800 PRO 256MB Retail w/ TV-Out, DVI (Limited Quantities!!!) 1 $599.95
Sound Cards : Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 OEM 1 $109.95
Speakers : Logitech X-620 6.1 Speaker System 1 $119.95
Ethernet Cards : Onboard 3COM 100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN 1 $0.00

Sub-Total: $2209.44
GST: $154.66
Total Cost: $2364.10

The case comes with 3 fans, plus 2 more in the psu i believe. The case can hold up to 7 fans. For cooling I think this case is awesome. plus an antec psu.

I don't see any reason to pay an extra $120+ for a 3400 right now.

I also don't see any reason to buy a 9800 pro. The new generation ati cards are here and only $100 or so more.

let me know what you guys think. remember this is in canadian dollars.
this is about 1,818.32 USD

Judas 08-22-2004 01:33 PM

Dude, if he gets that shit that you tell him to get , then he will have to pay again for more stuff in the future in a shorter period of time then he would,
ninty what you have is a great setup for anygame coming up this year and is good very well through next years... you did smart ...I was dumb buying the 2500 xp+ but I overclocked the son of a bitch to a 3200 like fujimi said, but you have to have A: Major cooling B:You have to know what your doing and C: It is bottleneck to the major video cards right now...

So there ya go... the 64 bit processors from the 3200 64 and up are phenomenal and I know from a friend who has a 3800 athlon 64, with an x800 pro as well... hes got a dream pc...So the answer to you question Webb is pricing because of how AMD wants it to be sold as, notice other sites will be competitive with Newegg? such as http://www.allstarshop.com and such they are told by the company for when they get a discount and drop in prices and such... Thats it..

holy crap, 599 for a graphics card eek:

i just bought a brand new system for 600, tax included. (clearly not high end, but then again, not too shabby)

ninty 08-22-2004 02:37 PM

That is brand the brand new next generation ati card. and as I said, prices are in Canadian. I don't live in the US, therefore I don't purchase things in US dollars.

ninty 08-22-2004 04:17 PM

Can anyone recommend a case? It needs to be ATX. I also want a clear side panel, and it would be nice if it had a psu included, but thats not a big deal. I also would like lots of spaces for fans. At least 3 or 4, but to have more would be better.

I've been looking at a few here:

Raidmax Scorpio 868 $89.95 w/ 420w psu

Which I can't tell the difference from:

Artec - 868WS $83.99 w/o psu

Are Raidmax and Artec the same company? The scorpio comes with a 420w psu, and the artec doesn't and they both cost about the same. Anyone know why?

Also been looking at aspire:

Aspire X-Alien 420w psu $138.99

I'm looking for black as well. Any recommendations?

I liked the raidmax, but then read some reviews of the psu shitting out, and i don't want to buy it if its just going to break and i have to fork out $100 for a decent psu. I guess thats why its at $90 for case and psu.

Judas 08-22-2004 04:20 PM

bleh ... those cases do nothing for me since my box is never together.

: i usually just get the 14 dollar one ...

Akuma 08-22-2004 04:22 PM

PSUs that come with cases are always low quality pieces of shit. But if you HAVE to get one to save money then go with that X-Alien. It's ugly as fuck but has the best airflow design(Antec clone).

If you need it to come with a PSU try to get an Antec case.

ninty 08-22-2004 04:39 PM

Money's not really an issue within reason.

I was looking at the antec cases, and they only have one besides lanboy with a clear side. The PLUSVIEW1000AMG

$109.95 cdn + psu.

Getting up there in price.

Here are my other options:
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/ ... CatId=1520

Maplegyver 08-22-2004 04:41 PM

i useually get the cheap cases too

Akuma 08-22-2004 04:45 PM

The Cheiftech Dragon cases are Antec clones with windows.

Most cases by Chenbro and some other companies are all Antec clones too.

ninty 08-22-2004 04:49 PM

Clones as far as airflow and such? So those would be decent pickup if I didn't want to spend the $200+?

Akuma 08-22-2004 04:58 PM

Airflow, Front Design, everything. They are exactly the same.

ninty 08-22-2004 05:02 PM

thanks for the info.

plus swill, a 2500+ takes no extra cooling to turn into a 3200+ in 99.9% of cases, and it doesnt bottleneck off any modern video cards, a 3200+ is a fairly nice proc... especially for the 80 or so bucks you pay

who cares? amd will make a bettter one

OC-ing a 2500+ consists of a 3 second... 5 keystroke process no one can mess up too bad
